Find a Job You Really Want In
Ever wondered how much job choice impacts relationships? After all, your job impacts so much of your life. Could it impact whether you even get married at all?
We were curious, so we dove into the data to see if there was any connection. We found strong correlation between job and marriage.
More specifically, workers in some jobs are significantly more likely to be married than others. You can scroll to the bottom to see the full list of jobs- from most likely to be married to the least. But first, let’s check out the top 10 jobs that say “I do.”

There are some definite trends in the top 10. 5 are in healthcare, 2 are religious professions, and 2 are high-powered, dangerous jobs. We break down how we determined the results below. Your job not in the top 10? Check out the full list at the bottom to see if your job is prone to married bliss or super single.
How We Determined Which Jobs Have High Marriage Rates
We used the 2018 ACS 1-year PUMS data to find marriage rate by job industry. We tallied the data for 479 fields. The lower the ranking, the higher the percent of workers married. We then focused our data on people aged 30-45, prime marrying age.
1. Clergy
Marriage Rate: 85%
Clergy have the highest rate of marriage of any profession. Whatever they’re doing, they should keep doing it because a marriage rate of 85% is more than good.
2. Directors, Religious Activities And Education
Marriage Rate: 82%
The close cousin of clergy, directors of religious activities and education enjoy the second highest marriage rate at 82%
3. First Line Supervisors Of Fire Fighting And Prevention
Marriage Rate: 81%
Firefighters put their lives on the line for public safety. It’s nice to know that most of them (hopefully) go home to a loving partner, after the daily stress of the job.
4. Dentists
Marriage Rate: 80%
In addition to a high marriage rate, dentists enjoy a higher than average salary and a great work life balance for a doctor.
5. Architectural And Engineering Managers
Marriage Rate: 79%
A common job of romantic comedies, architects (and the less features engineers) have a marriage rate of 79%. Maybe those movies are better researched than we give them credit for.
6. First Line Enlisted Military Supervisors
Marriage Rate: 78%
Similar to firefighters, enlisted military supervisors put their lives in peril to get their mission accomplished. Their marriage rate of 78% is above average. Interestingly, younger military supervisors have one of the highest divorce rates.
7. Podiatrists
Marriage Rate: 78%
Podiatrists like feet. And marriage. 78% of podiatrists are married.
8. Chiropractors
Marriage Rate: 78%
Maybe chiropractors are good at adjusting to marriage difficulties, because 78% of them are married.
9. Nurse Practitioners And Nurse Midwives
Marriage Rate: 77%
Another medical related job! 77% of nurse practitioners and midwives are married.
10. Radiation Therapists
Marriage Rate: 77%
At 77%, radiation therapists may be bottom of the top 10, but the results aren’t anything to sneeze at.
Summary On The Best Jobs For Marriage
While we cannot guarantee all of these couples are happily married, they are still married. While your job itself will not cause marriage, we did uncover a strong association between the two. However, none of that should downplay the impact your job can have on many facets of your life. Of course, it is entirely possible to be a forever alone clergyman (sorry, 15%). The same way it possible to a happily married dancer, even though most dancers are not married.
