Survey: Workers Want (And Enjoy!) Office Halloween Parties

Office celebrations serve as a refreshing break from daily routines and play a vital role in fostering a positive workplace culture.

In our recent survey of 1,000 workers, we delved into their perspectives on Halloween celebrations at work. The results reveal that the majority of employees not only want but genuinely enjoy Halloween festivities in the office. So, stock up on candy and let the spooky fun begin!

77% of employees want an office Halloween party

Quick Facts

Other Findings

  • Only 14% of workers report that a coworker has worn an overly inappropriate costume for a work Halloween event.
  • Costume examples include strippers, political figures, and revealing outfits.
  • 23% of workers express disdain for workplace Halloween celebrations, exclaiming “Bah candy corn!”
  • 1 in 3 employees plan to dress up for Halloween at work.
  • 36% believe their colleagues will participate in costume festivities.

Workers Love Candy in the Office…But Have Their Favorites

While candy can strengthen workplace camaraderie, it’s clear that some treats are more favored than others. The candies workers voted as their “least favorite” are displayed above, with candy corn, black licorice, and Good And Plenty taking the bottom spots. (Do they even still sell Good And Plenty?)

Beyond these, candy preferences can vary widely, so a variety pack might be your best option. After all, can you really have too many candy choices?

Methodology

The survey was conducted by Zippia, a career resource website, with responses from 1,000 workers across the United States to gauge opinions on workplace Halloween celebrations.

All respondents answered a consistent set of questions, and the survey was conducted in September 2021 using Clickworker’s Survey platform.

Workplace Halloweens Can Be Boo-tiful

Although only 57% of workers reported that their workplace would celebrate Halloween in some form, an impressive 77% indicated they would enjoy an office Halloween celebration.

While some companies may hesitate to allocate time for such events or worry about the potential for a rowdy atmosphere, it’s essential to recognize the value of employee satisfaction—especially in today’s competitive labor market. If offering a few Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups can boost morale, it’s definitely worth considering.

Encourage creativity by letting employees dress up as their favorite characters and enjoy light-hearted moments over slices of pizza. Chances are, everyone will have a fun—if not a little spooky—time together.

Never miss an opportunity that’s right for you.
