The Construction Inspector is responsible for full-time, site-based surveillance and focused inspection of work on one or more significant water or wastewater and utility infrastructure projects. The individual monitors and documents construction work in progress, verifies conformance with construction drawings and specifications, and provides general coordination with various project stakeholders at the field level. Minimum Requirements
Five (5) years of experience in building inspection and code enforcement in a jurisdiction that enforces a model code; and must possess certification as a certified building official, Level 5, with at least one (1) Level-3 specialty (building, electrical, energy, fire protection, mechanical, and/or plumbing); or, any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Perform field observation and documentation of contractor activities for compliance with contract requirements.
Prepare thorough Daily Work Reports (DWRs) detailing work status, item postings, materials associations, and jobsite conditions.
Complete and submit required calculations, sketches, and forms per ODOT specifications.
Verify construction adherence to contract requirements and communicate non-compliance issues to senior staff.
Assist with Requests for Information and serve as liaison between contractors and senior technicians/engineers.
Collaborate with project teams, including engineers, technicians, survey staff, contractors, and stakeholders.
Work closely with senior technicians and engineers to ensure proper execution of project designs.
What We're Looking For
Associate or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Concrete Technology, or equivalent experience.
Completion of ODOT Certified Technician program or a bachelor's degree in construction management or civil engineering.
2+ years of related experience in construction inspection.
Familiarity with ODOT construction specifications and field experience.
Experience with concrete, asphalt, earthwork, and utility construction inspection/testing.
Preferred certifications: ACI Grade I, DOT Asphalt Tech, NICET Highway Construction Inspection, ICC Special Inspections, CWI/NDT.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Bluebeam, PlanGrid, and digital inspection platforms (AASHTOWare, Appia) is a plus.
Experience with survey equipment including GPS or Arrow Systems is a plus.

What You'll Do:
As the Construction Inspector, you will perform the following duties:
Performing Resident Representative duties, including full-time on-site inspection for both short-term and long-term assignments.
Assist in administering the terms of the construction contract, including processing submittals and managing RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and schedules.
Documenting construction progress in accordance with the contract specifications, including detailed field reports and logs of RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
Maintaining accurate project documentation, including permits, specifications, and contractor pay requests.
Acting as a liaison between contractors, design professionals, and clients, ensuring clear communication and resolution of issues as they arise.
Coordinating with regulatory agencies, consultants, and clients to secure necessary approvals and permits.

ODOT Inspection Prequalification is a plus
