JOB SUMMARY: The position of Metal Fabricator performs duties in the Metal shop related to all elements of metal fabrication. Duties primarily involve welding processes but also include operating basic hand tools, component assembly, operating metal fabrication equipment including saws, drills, grinders and forming equipment that are associated with metal fabrication. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Comfortable in a team environment. Read blueprints and drawings including weld symbols. The ability to follow blueprints and building plans. Create cut list from drawing packages. Determine the appropriate welding and fabrication equipment or methods based on requirements. Measuring and marking out cutting and bending lines. Set up metalwork equipment including rollers, drill presses, mills, plasma cutters, brakes and saws. Operate basic hand tools and powered hand tools. i.e., drills, disc grinders etc. Maintain welding equipment including MIG/TIG machines. Follow instructions from Foreman and Sr Department members. Fabricate structural and non-structural metal assemblies. Grinding and finishing completed products. Report progress and any non-conformities to Dept Foreman. Keep track of stock items and report to Foreman when more stock items are needed. Can be consulted on best practice methods and take part of the consultation process between the Dept Foreman and Production Manager. Assist in project and process prototyping and development. Install interior and exterior structures and fixtures. Work with Field Operations team to ensure high quality standards are upheld. Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment. Able to provide knowledge and training on job specific tools to junior team members. Mechanical knowledge an asset. QUALIFICATIONS: 5+ years experience in metal fabrication or similar trade. AWS Certification is an asset.· Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings. A desire to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment. Detail oriented. May include t-wyes, ceiling/floor boxes, side outs and custom items per customer specifications Layout, measure, mark dimensions on metal according to template, using calculators, scribes, dividers, squares and rulers Set up and operate fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, grinders, and drill presses, to bend, cut form, punch, drill or otherwise form and assemble metal components (no plasma machines) Fasten seams or joints together with welds, bolts, cement, rivets, solder, caulks, metal drive clips, or bonds to assemble components into product Drills and punches holes in metal, for screws, bolts, and rivets Adhere to customer timelines and specifications Calculate curb dimensions to include roof pitch so units can be replaced. This is an entry level welding position using GTAW processes on sheet metal. On-the-Job training and certification required. Welder shall meet the requirements to certify to Government, customer and company specifications. It is our intent that a welder classified as a Heliarc Welder shall be capable of performing Class B and Class C welds ONLY. No Class A welding. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assemble and weld aerospace products to Engineering drawings, customer and company requirements Set up and operate welding machines. Perform at acceptable levels of quality and productivity on all welding assignments. Interpret engineering drawings and specifications necessary to perform welding correctly. Capable of identifying and recognizing welding problems, troubleshoot and correct with guidance from Journeymen Welder, Lead person or Supervisor. Capable of manufacturing shop aides/purges used to facilitate welding as needed. Weld production aerospace assemblies using GTAW processes. Will maintain work area and equipment in a clean, orderly FOD-Free environment and adhere to all safety standards. This is not all inclusive of all duties. Other duties may be assigned. Education and Experience: High School Diploma, Trade School Welding Certificate or equivalent; previous manufacturing experience may be considered in lieu of education requirement. Requires six (6) months experience in TIG (GTAW) welding on light gauge materials (.010-.250 inch) with evidence of certification on stainless steel and nickel alloys.
