Job Overview:
Continental Tide is seeking an experienced and skilled Welder. The successful candidate will join our Fleet Services Group performing various ship repair, modernization and Alteration Installation Team (AIT) projects.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Knowledgeable in joining, fabricating, and repairing metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques.
Perform various welding processes to repair, modify and install various pipes, structures, foundations and fittings associated with shipboard hydraulic, pneumatic and water systems.
Fabricate and install fixtures and jigs required for welding process alignments. Interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams or schematics to determine appropriate welding process. Must be able to select required welding filler materials, joint design, heat ranges and most effective or required welding process/procedure to ensure quality welding operations IAW TWD.
Inspect completed welds to determine structural soundness and adherence to NAVSEA, ABS & AWS standards. Installs or repairs equipment, such as pipes, valves, floors and tank linings.
Experienced in SMAW, GMAW & GTAW, Ship Fitting and OXY ACC & Propane GAS Cutting torch. Able to weld multiple types, thicknesses & sizes of pipe, plate & bar material in horizontal, overhead and/or vertical positions. Possess basic and some advanced specialized welder's tools.
Experience and Skills
Requirements:
Must possess a high school, trade or vocational school degree.
5-10 years of direct experience in ship repair and installation of HM&E systems and equipment.
Ability to read and interpret ship installation drawings, installation specifications and NAVSEA Standard Items is preferred.
Must have or have the ability to obtain a SECRET clearance.
Must have the ability to obtain base access and security credentials.
Ability to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs.
Ability to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.
Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.

JOB SUMMARY:
The position of Metal Fabricator performs duties in the Metal shop related to all elements of metal fabrication. Duties primarily involve welding processes but also include operating basic hand tools, component assembly, operating metal fabrication equipment including saws, drills, grinders and forming equipment that are associated with metal fabrication.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Comfortable in a team environment.
Read blueprints and drawings including weld symbols.
The ability to follow blueprints and building plans.
Create cut list from drawing packages.
Determine the appropriate welding and fabrication equipment or methods based on requirements.
Measuring and marking out cutting and bending lines.

Operate basic hand tools and powered hand tools. i.e., drills, disc grinders etc.
Maintain welding equipment including MIG/TIG machines.
Follow instructions from Foreman and Sr Department members.

Grinding and finishing completed products.
Report progress and any non-conformities to Dept Foreman.
Keep track of stock items and report to Foreman when more stock items are needed.
Can be consulted on best practice methods and take part of the consultation process between the Dept Foreman and Production Manager.
Assist in project and process prototyping and development.
Install interior and exterior structures and fixtures.
Work with Field Operations team to ensure high quality standards are upheld.
Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment.
Able to provide knowledge and training on job specific tools to junior team members.
Mechanical knowledge an asset.
QUALIFICATIONS:
5+ years experience in metal fabrication or similar trade.
AWS Certification is an asset.· Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
