Learn more about who we are Position Description The Restoration and Plant Stewardship Coordinator will play an integral role in overseeing the coordination and execution of a restoration implementation project in the California portion of the Amargosa River watershed, funded through the California Wildlife Conservation Board Desert Conservation Program. This position will coordinate with grant partners across following actions: Assist with restoration and stewardship projects, including volunteer recruitment, training, and supervision. Support the creation of a cultural seedbanking program alongside Indigenous partners. Execute hydrological monitoring of critical alkali wetland habitat. Act as a community liaison, connecting with key community members and landowners through direct outreach and community events. Engage with neighboring community members, business owners and other stakeholders about proposed restoration activities. Develop educational materials including social media and blog posts, newsletter articles, and interpretive displays. Oversee management of relevant equipment, and supplies. Oversees associated data entry and mapping for field projects. Assists in preparation of reports and other documents for submission to project partners and government agencies. Collaborate with and assist the California Botanic Garden on botanical projects in the Amargosa River watershed including inventory, seed collection, monitoring, and outplanting. Other duties as assigned. This position will work directly with grant partners to execute project actions, plan and promote community education and engagement activities, and coordinate all necessary grant invoicing and reporting in accordance with agreements and deliverables for the duration of the grant term. USFS, California, Idaho, Nevada The Great Basin Institute, in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service is recruiting Botany Crew positions to support the study and review of proposed actions in National Forests in the Western U.S. This posting establishes a talent pool for seasonal botany positions typically active from early spring through fall (generally April-November). Projects focus on plant community assessments, rare and sensitive plant surveys, invasive species monitoring, and habitat condition evaluations, with assignments varying by forest location and project needs. Lead - Essential Job Functions may include the following: Lead field crews in botanical surveys to determine species identity, population characteristics, environmental conditions, factors affecting vigor and extent of species and their habitat; Manage crew safety, coordinate daily tasks, and ensure data collection adheres to USFS management protocols. Description: GBI is recruiting Ecological Monitoring Soils and Vegetation Field Technicians to work with GBI and BLM staff. Each Field Tech will work with one other technician under the supervision of a Field Lead to characterize vegetation using the terrestrial AIM core methods. In some instances, Habitat Assessment Framework (HAF), and/or other supplemental protocols will be performed, for which training will be provided. Aside from core AIM sampling, any supplemental protocols implemented will vary by location. Duties include following established field protocols to perform vegetation sampling and field data collection at new and existing sampling plots. Data will be used by resource specialists and land managers to inform decisions regarding land management at various temporal and spatial scales. During field work, car camping for 7 night “hitches” in remote locations will typically be required. Field work will include: Maintaining safety awareness and practices; Extensive 4x4 driving on unmaintained roads; Navigating off-trail to sampling sites; Establishing sampling plots and transects; Identifying and describing soil horizons to help verify ecological site descriptions (ESDs); Collecting vegetation data (including species inventory, forb diversity, species abundance, sagebrush shape, foliar cover, canopy gap, and herbaceous and woody heights); Taking photo-points. This is a 12-week field-based position in a remote location on the Summit Lake Reservation in Humboldt County, Nevada. Primary Responsibilities: Assist with monitoring the LCT spawn run in the Mahogany Creek Fish Trap (50%); Conduct redd surveys throughout the watershed (20%); Assist with juvenile/fry trap monitoring (20%); and Occasionally assist with other natural resource projects as needed, such as water quality monitoring, Tribal outreach, Sage Grouse population monitoring, and fence/station/vehicle maintenance (10%). Each position involves working on varied projects with potential assignments focused on federally listed species, candidate species, and those proposed for listing, such as raptors, amphibians, or carnivores.
