You Have * EDUCATION: Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED with 2+ years' experience in driver supper and customer service. QUALIFICATIONS: * Experience working in a Warehouse/Airline catering environment. * A Valid Driver's License. * The ability to meet requirements necessary to obtain a PANYNJ (Port Authority), Port ID (per TSA regulations and more specifically, 49 CFR §1542.209). * Must have excellent attention to detail. * Must be able to multi-task. * Must be able to read and write in English. * Reliable - excellent attendance & punctuality. * Schedule flexibility. Must be able to work Saturday's and Sunday's. * Ability to lift and push heavy objects, racks, etc. * Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. * Work safely to prevent accidents to self and coworkers. The Collection Helper's main responsibility is to collect (primarily by hand) and load refuse from customer locations into a heavy-duty sanitation vehicle. Unless designated by the company as a CDL Helper, Helpers are not permitted to operate a company vehicle at any time. The position reports to the Operations Manager onsite but is also subject to supervision by Route Supervisors and Dispatchers. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to: Transfer refuse in a timely and safe manner from customer stops to vehicle. Assist the driver while maneuvering into positions for collection and disposal Maintain and partake in daily clean-up of vehicle Learn garbage routes to better assist driver Attend all required training, operational meetings, and mandatory monthly Safety Meetings Work Environment Helpers spend majority of daily routine both in the cab of the truck, on the back of the truck, or moving around the truck for trash collection Helpers must be able to physically mount and dismount the truck throughout the duration of the work day Helpers must be able to constantly lift, push, and pull waste bags and receptacles that weigh approximately 50-75+ lbs. as part of their daily routine. The bags usually have no wheels or handles for easier maneuverability, so the employee must have the physical strength to carry out the job duties. Picks up solid waste and places it in the back of a rear load garbage truck on specified routes often done manually or by pushing totter to tipper. Lifts and carries trash bags, bulk items and containers to the truck for disposal. Climbs onto and off of the rear truck step to load refuse, waste and carts. Operates packing mechanism to compact waste into the truck. Provides a safe and Distinguishably Different level of service through courteous and expeditious customer service in all aspects of refuse operation to the general public and customers. Exhibits a positive attitude towards company, customer and municipal goals. Ensures garbage and recyclables at residences are picked up and transferred properly; pick up may require using back door. Answers questions for residents and directs them to contact Customer Service or appropriate government office for additional information. Must comply with all ANSI (American National Standards Institute), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and company safety polices including Oak Ridge Waste Absolute Guidelines. Assists Driver in safely backing up the truck by directing the Driver from the ground. Cleans behind the compactor blade with shovel and hoe when directed. Sprays and cleans the hopper and truck at the end of each shift or as needed. Reports any safety or customer service related issues to driver and supervisor, immediately. Performs a variety of manual duties in the clean-up of scattered refuse; Cleans up the area around accidental waste spills and ensures customers containers are replaced properly. May be required to work during emergency situations. Assists other routes as needed to complete daily work. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. OTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: * Employees in this job classification must attend and participate in corporation sponsored training courses as assigned. * Employees in this job classification are responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by Oak Ridge Waste. * Any additional job duties that may be assigned by the Supervisor..
