Overview:


Renton Technical College is seeking a part-time English Language Acquisition (ELA) Instructor to teach adult learners in our College & Career Pathways program. The successful candidate will provide individualized and/or group instruction in reading, writing, speaking, and listening, and will work closely with students to achieve their academic and career goals.
Responsibilities:

* Teach all subjects encompassed in our ELA programs, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening

* Provide individualized and/or group instruction to adult learners with a wide range of academic and career goals

* Develop contextualized curriculum and alternative delivery methods to support student success

* Assess, monitor, and document student performance

* Advise students in meeting their educational goals and complete required paperwork and attendance records

* Maintain student records using the Canvas learning management system

* Attend College & Career Pathways department and team meetings as appropriate

* Fulfill part-time faculty responsibilities in accordance with the negotiated agreement and College policies

* Support the College's mission by creating a learning environment of mutual respect and fairness

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's Degree in Education (preferably Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or Adult Education equivalent) and one year or more experience teaching this population, or equivalent education and experience

* Master's Degree in Adult Basic Education, TESOL, or closely related field preferred

* Ability to teach skill areas encompassed in an ELA program

* Ability to design learning experiences that are interactive and respectful of cultural differences

* Ability to work effectively with individuals whose first language is not English

* Ability to work effectively and engage with adult learners

* Experience teaching adults and using various teaching strategies that address different learning styles

* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally in English

* Experience working on teams in collaborative instructional environment

* Experience developing curriculum preferred

* Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team

* Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines

Renton Technical College (RTC) in Renton, Washington offers a full range of programs to meet the various educational, occupational, academic and personal needs of Renton residents. Training programs give students the skills they need to work in automotive fields, culinary arts, education, human service, medical/health fields and technology among others. For those students who would like to eventually pursue such training but as of now don't have a high school diploma, RTC offers Basic Studies courses. These include classes in GED prep, ESL and basic math, reading, writing and speech. For students who would like to start at RTC but eventually move on to a four-year school, RTC has a college transfer program. This allows students to complete the first two years at RTC and the remaining two at a four year school. Continuing education offerings allow RTC students to undertake short-term training leading to certification in a specialized area. Courses include Accounting, First Aid, Forklift Training, Land Surveying and Welding. RTC also has innovative programs offering apprenticeships and a worker retraining program for those reentering the workforce. Students at RTC have different scheduling options, which include accelerated courses. Many classes are offered online as well to provide maximum access. Student services at RTC will help you to choose which of RTC's programs best suits your goals through career development services, academic advising and other means.
