Organizational Summary:

Essential Functions:
Assists the Instructor in the delivery of Outward Bound mission, educational framework and required course components.
Participates in course planning, including the development of educational and technical curricula, route planning, food and equipment organization/packing, and more.
Adheres to all local operating procedures, safety policies and emergency procedures outlined in the NCOBS Policy Manual and LOPP's.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides clear, effective and timely communication with the Instructor, supervisor, and other staff.
Manages student groups and all emergencies in Instructor's absence.
Demonstrates effective use of communication protocols and technology during emergency situations.
Participates in required staff training. New Staff average 35 days of training in their first year.
Consistently strives to give and receive timely feedback with co-workers and supervisors.
Commits to own professional growth as well as improving technical and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions:
Base camps are 40 minutes - 1 hour from the nearest town and embody a community living environment.
Staff cabins are rustic but comfortable; laundry, showers, internet, a group kitchen, and recreational spaces are all available at the base camps.
Daily meals are provided when working. Lunch and dinner are made each day by the Kitchen Manager. While all food is provided, staff are expected to make their own breakfast.
Qualifications:
21 years of age or older.
Current Wilderness First Responder and CPR certifications.
Must be willing to commit to multiple years of work. To blossom as an Instructor requires a commitment of two or more years.
Have a level of competence in backpacking skills and experience that enables the individual to focus on the students' performance and not their own. Suggested 20+ days, some of which should be extended expeditionary travel.
Must pass a background screening and be cleared to work with youth.
Must be sufficiently fit to participate in all site and course activities and maintain ample energy, strength, and focus to aid students and instructors. This includes:
Extended time on your feet - sometimes for up to 16+ hours a day, or possibly more in the case of an emergency.
Ability to carry a 40 - 65-pound backpack on and off-trail for up to 12+ hours in a day.
Ability to complete fitness events that are 7 mountain miles. (Finishing in 75 minutes is a recommended benchmark.)
Bachelor's degree and/or 2-3 years' experience in the outdoor education/experiential learning field or any similar combination of education and experience.
Outward Bound or other wilderness expeditionary experience. (OB, NOLS, College Outing/Orientation trip or equivalent)

Participates in the logistics coordinator on-call system and responds to field emergencies.

Work Schedule:
The Design Camp Lead Staff are required to attend training sessions, information sessions, staff meetings and complete administrative projects in preparation for Design Camp from February - May 2026. The prep work includes, but is not limited to, planning and leading some of the Design Camp Counselor Training Retreat in June 2026, preparing materials for campers, and planning Design Camp activities. Spring semester would be approximately 5 - 15 hours per week and determined by the Coordinator of Pre-College programs. Spring hours will vary and increase as the camp season approaches. The Coordinator of Pre-College Programs will work closely with Lead Staff to determine exact days and times to meet and work.
During the Design Camp Season, June - August 2026, Lead Staff will facilitate Design Camp Sessions by supporting campers, counselors and working with Design Lab Staff. Between Program Week 1 and Week 2 (Tuesday, June 30-Thursday, July 2) and Program Week 3 and Week 4 (Tuesday, July 21-Thursday, July 23), work related to preparing for upcoming Design Camp programs may be required, depending on outstanding tasks and program needs. Any hours worked during these periods will be compensated through the end-of-summer bonus. We are looking for candidates who are PASSIONATE about fitness and helping others achieve their goals. We are interested in hardworking and committed individuals who can thrive in a TEAM environment! The customer service of a WORKOUT ANYTIME fitness/sales consultant must be outstanding! Our club does not only provide 1on1 training, group training, tanning, hydromassage and free HIT training tips to our members but we also produce consistently amazing results in a healthy and effective way! Our entire TEAM will work together to provide support for each member and ensure they get the life-changing results they are after!

Candidate Requirements:
Ability to consistently generate new club memberships through contacting leads generated through marketing activities, generating referral leads from current membership base, and through engaging club tours for walk-ins.
Ability to quickly identify potential member's needs and use solution-selling techniques to build value in our club's amenities and services to the member and close the sale.
Ability to thrive in a competitive sales position while maintaining a cohesive team environment.
Ability to meet challenging monthly quotas and demonstrate production excellence within 30 days of starting.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and demands including club cleanliness.
Compensation: $10,000 to $20,000 per year

The English as a second language (ESL) instructor reports to the ESL Coordinator and the Director of College and Career Readiness. This person will be responsible for assisting adult learners with acquiring the English language, academic, and workforce development skills necessary to achieve a high school equivalency diploma and to transition to post-secondary or job opportunities.
This position is for in-person teaching, so only local candidates need apply at this time.
This position will be open until filled. Candidates will be contacted throughout the semester.
Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
* Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Prior classroom experience teaching English as a second language.
* Maintain proficiency in technology (Microsoft Office, Access, email, etc.).
* Support the mission, vision, and values of North Carolina Community Colleges.
* Understand and appreciate the philosophy of the NC Community College System.
Preferred Qualifications
* One to two years of classroom teaching experience in a secondary school, community college, adult education or alternative educational institution.
* TESOL certificate.
Essential Duties
* Develop lesson plans and course materials that maximize student learning in English as a second language and follow established curriculum. Evaluate student progress regularly, with an emphasis on building language skills to a level of high school proficiency on TABE, CASAS, or other, approved standardized assessments.
* Develop lesson plans aligned to the NCCCS College and Career Readiness Adult Education Content Standards.
* Use a communicative, student-centered approach that employs appropriate and diverse teaching and learning strategies - i.e. individual, group, hands-on and contextualized instruction as well as lecture and discussion. Incorporate instructional technology when available and appropriate.
* Review course content and materials as well as student evaluations and make recommendations to Coordinator for course revision and/or development.
* Maintain accurate records of student daily hours through self-service attendance, pre and post-test hours, and progress. Submit final rosters according to established deadlines.
* Maintain a thorough working knowledge of educational functioning levels (EFL's), post-testing guidelines and performance measures.
* Implement best practices for the retention and recruitment of students.
* Adhere to institutional policies and procedures. Enforce rules concerning student behavior.
* Assist with the enrollment of students to improve retention efforts.
* Attend and actively participate in team meetings and twelve hours of professional development annually.
* Treat others respectfully, speak to others courteously, and behave in such a way that creates a workplace environment that is marked by trustworthiness, honest but polite communication, and interpersonal interactions that are both personally cordial and professionally appropriate.
* Model an understanding of and commitment to the comprehensive community college philosophy and mission.
* Perform other duties as assigned by Instructional Coordinator or Director.
