The person in this role seeks to ensure that sound and up-to-date scientifically based animal welfare standards and practices remain at the core of American Humane's Farm Certification Program. The Coordinator works collaboratively with and reports directly to the organization's Chief Veterinary Officer and the Director, Farm Program Operations.
In cooperation with program and senior leadership, the Farm Standards and Science Coordinator will contribute to large scale projects related to process improvement and strategic planning and growth of the farm program.
Responsibilities:
+ Maintain and manage American Humane Certified standards and related documents and communicate with American Humane Certified Producers regularly
+ Provide oversight regarding standards development, interpretation, and implementation
+ Manage day-to-day inquires, questions, and responses regarding our standards, interpretations of our standards, review and interpretation of research and science as it relates to our standards
+ Write reports, memos, and correspondence in response to questions regarding the American Humane Certified program and standards
+ Prepare and communicate technical information to internal and external stakeholders
+ Prepare and present information regarding current research and standards at industry events and trainings
+ Meet with producers and advisory scientists
+ Manage and engage the Farm Program Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) and outside scientific advisors to ensure judicious use of their expertise, volunteer time, and energy
+ Ensure that animal welfare standards and guidelines reflect new research and technology; review regularly and in consultation with the SAC, make recommendations for revision of existing or the development of new standards as needed
