Dr. Dimitrios Bolkas: Having a four-year degree is a big plus in our field, as well as having passed the SIT before or shortly after graduation. A high GPA is important for bargaining a higher salary. Aso, having completed an internship is important because it shows that the graduate already has working experience.
Dr. Dimitrios Bolkas: The most important soft skills for surveyors are teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. These are needed every day in surveying.
Dr. Dimitrios Bolkas: For a recent graduate, having passed the SIT (Surveyor in Training) is a big plus. Then after X amount of years of continuous work (usually 4), they will be eligible to sit for their licensing exam. Having a license in surveying is really going to increase their salary. After that, the skills needed for surveyors working in larger firms/engineering companies are mostly related to project management.
