The Center for Applied Biomechanics is seeking applicants for a Senior Scientist or Principal Scientist for experimental and computational injury biomechanics research. Candidates will be responsible for developing new research funding through application to competitive opportunities, manage the execution of projects including leading a team of students and engineers focused on research involved with vehicle structural modeling and crash simulation, and to assist in the development of research proposals, supervising graduate students and other personnel, and prepare reports, publications, and presentations of research findings for dissemination to research sponsors and the scientific community. Candidates must have at least two years experience in a management role, supervising a team of personnel to execute research projects. The University of Virginia seeks a Senior Research Scientist for the newly established National Security Data and Policy Institute. This role will be responsible for conducting original research and the coordination of Institute deliverables. The Senior Research Scientist will be responsible for independent research production in their specialty area. The Yang lab is seeking a research scientist to join their lab. We are located within the Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics Department at the University of Virginia. The research scientist will be responsible for independent research production in their specialty area. About the Yang Lab: The Yang Lab is dedicated to dissecting the molecular mechanisms of cellular stress response, specifically focusing on mitochondrial stress, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, and downstream integrated stress response (ISR). We use an interdisciplinary approach, integrating structural biology (Cryo-EM/Cryo-ET), biochemistry (protein characterization), and cell biology (fluorescent imaging). Our ultimate goal is to modulate those stress response pathways in physiological and pathological conditions, potentially leading to the development of novel therapeutics for related human diseases, including neurodegeneration, metabolic disorders, and cancer. In addition, we have established close collaborations with experts in disease-relevant mouse models to complement our mechanistic findings. The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia is seeking qualified candidates for a Research Scientist position in membrane protein biophysics. The Columbus research group investigates the structure, dynamics, and function of membrane proteins using a variety of biophysical approaches. The Department of Medicine at the University of Virginia is seeking a Research Scientist to work in the laboratory of Dr. Jeffrey Sturek, MD, PhD. The Sturek Laboratory is an exciting NIH-funded group which focuses on translational pulmonary immunology and fibrosis. The laboratory utilizes both human and patient samples to explore disease phenotypes and associations as well as murine and in vitro model systems to test novel biological mechanisms. Techniques of interest focus around high-dimensional immunophenotyping via mass cytometry and spectral flow cytometry, immunofluorescence and imaging mass cytometry, and RNA sequencing. Disease areas of interest are fibrotic lung diseases such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary graft-vs-host disease, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and respiratory infections. The successful candidate will serve as a leader of laboratory projects, provide scientific and technical guidance on experimental design, conduct and interpretation and also perform studies needed to advance the missions of our research program. This is a leadership position within the lab, and the successful candidate will serve as the principal investigator's scientific partner. They should possess strong organizational skills to enable the administrative, regulatory and operational needs of the lab, and they should be willing and eager to learn new techniques to bring to the lab.
