NATURE OF WORK
Responsible for preparing work site to locate utilities and eliminate potential hazards prior to drilling. Load, unload and transport construction materials and tools. Hand dig to clear debris for Drill Operator, check utilities and clearances. Excavate and fill trenches and ditches. Perform installation of underground telecommunications cable and conduit. Assist with machinery maintenance and other duties as assigned. Perform job site clean-up and area restoration.

JOB SUMMARY

Provide clear, concise, and thorough job briefings with all personnel on each job site.
Enforce all Railroad, State, and Federal Policies.
Identify rule violations and resolve in accordance with Railroad, State, and Federal Policies.
Enforce Contractor training requirements.
Submit daily field reports detailing Contractor and/or Railroad activities.
Provide On-Track Safety in accordance with 49 CFR 214 Federal Regulations for Class 1 Railroads, Regional Short Lines, Transit Systems, State DOT Rail Divisions, Railroad Suppliers, Railroad Contractors, and/or Railroad Consultants.

Employees will gather at the shop in Byron Center by 5:45 am to commute to the work site. The role involves working in cold environments, necessitating cold weather, waterproof boots, and warm clothing, ideally Carhartt gear. Workers should bring a change of dry clothes, extra socks, and their own meals. Overtime and weekend work may be required, with weekends being optional whenever possible, and employees will be informed in advance if weekend work is necessary.
