Applies experience and critical thinking skills to maximize departmental throughput and maximize effective use of limited resources. Collaborates effectively with other departments and nursing units to expedite performance of requested examinations while minimizing disruptions to the patient and hospital operations. 10% Trains new Associate Technologists and Vascular Technology Students in non-invasive procedures 1. Discusses anatomy and vascular physiology associated with the test in general and specifically as it relates to each patient's pathology. 2. Familiarizes the technologist or student with current scientific articles and reference books pertaining to the procedure s . 3. Discusses and demonstrates equipment operation. 4. Discusses and demonstrates testing protocols and criteria. 5. Instructs the technologist or student on interpreting the procedure and the proper method for preliminary reporting. 6. Trains technologist or student in proper documentation procedures. 7. Assists technologists or students during various stages of their training. 8. This role will support Mount Carmel East as needed The Registered Cardiovascular Sonographer is responsible for performing Echocardiography and/or Vascular diagnostic testing as per Accreditation Guidelines. Reports preliminary findings for physician interpretation, Functions within the standards, policies, procedures and guidelines of the organization. Responsibilities Responsibilities The Senior Cardiovascular Sonographer performs diagnostic cardiac examinations, utilizing equipment in various modes and techniques to locate, evaluate and record pertinent anatomical pathological and functional data of the cardiovascular system. They are recognized as clinical experts in the field of Cardiac Sonography, performing high skill level ultrasound exams, participating in the lab accreditation process as well as the quality improvement/assurance process. Consistent performance (at least 50% of the time) of all high skill level exams performed within the lab; exams include but are not limited to Echocardiograms for the evaluation of Mitral Valve Clip and/or Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacements, Stress Echocardiograms, LV/RV 3d Volumes and LV/RV Strain Analysis Regarded as a subject matter expert and mentor for other Cardiac Sonographers. Serves as a professional and technical role model for staff. Assists in teaching students, residents, fellows and new employees. Assists with workflow and scheduling and rescheduling of exams when necessary. Assists with equipment service needs (Preventative Maintenance and repair) when management is not present, or as delegated. Detects malfunctions and disease states of patient during diagnostic exam, determining anatomy and variability from patient-to-patient to optimize the ultrasound tools required to obtain technically satisfactory images. Acts within ARDMS scope of practice, utilizes independent, professional judgment to adapt procedure plan to optimize exam results. Clearly translates data from exam into written report for physician interpretation. Consults with physician regarding preliminary findings prior to the physician's interpretation, including special considerations and measurements. Contact covering physician if urgent findings are present. Assures timely scheduling of urgent/add-on exams. Provides education to the patient and/or family pertaining to the exam. Ensures proper maintenance (wiping/cleaning) of equipment and willingness to troubleshoot equipment issues. Evaluates and recommends new products and equipment when discovered by attending conferences or reading journals.
