Working with the Publisher for Spanish, the Associate Publisher serves as a key leader for the division by managing the imprint's Book publishing program, and supporting the mission and values, revenue goals and strategies. Day-to-day responsibilities include author acquisitions, vision-casting and cooperation with sales and marketing, publishing schedule development, financial oversight and staff management and development. The Associate Publisher assists the Publisher in developing, overseeing and managing the editorial process, creating ancillary products, and managing the brand. The Associate Publisher leads special projects and represents the Publisher in key meetings internally and externally. Specifically, the associate Publisher will lead the publishing program for Spanish Book works through the following: Strategically guide who and what books we publish, by acquiring and developing authors and titles for Editorial Vida, Grupo Nelson and HarperEnfoque. Books that appeal to large audiences and helps people grow spiritually, personally and in all areas of life. Manage ministry relationships that help us development and promote content for ministry impact. Lead and manage the editorial team in all aspects of its work. Product life-cycle management: ideation to acquisition and/or development, publication, refresh/relaunch and sunsetting titles as needed. Work collaboratively with Creative, Editorial, Marketing and Sales teams to support titles through the publication process as appropriate and required for product development. Maintain awareness of the editorial needs of the end consumer by reviewing current books, market trends and other sources of content including on-line and in print; by attending appropriate conferences and conventions; by developing contacts at the consumer level; and by cooperating with other divisions in the gathering and interpretation of formal and informal market research. Maintain awareness of market conditions, consumer buying patterns, publishing trends, social media engagement, and breakthroughs in digital product innovation. Responsibilities Personally acquire and develop 8 to 12 new titles per year and ensure books business reaches revenue and profitability goals for the year. Product Development - Evaluate new product ideas for marketability, financial viability, Biblical accuracy, doctrinal soundness, editorial and academic excellence. Lead team in ideation of product ideas and acquisition of new projects, as well as maintaining the product pipeline plans. Prepare and present product proposals to internal publishing board (monthly) and at Sales Conference (three times per year). Oversee the editorial development of approved projects. Personally doing the initial substantive edits before assigning to a production editor. This involves the use of developmental editors and qualified freelance translators and editors. Negotiate with authors and/or agents in a manner that is fair and within approved financial benchmarks, working with Contracts team for execution of publishing contract. Participate in internal meetings and activities (e.g. Spanish Leadership Team, product planning and development, sales/marketing strategies, titling/packaging, pub board, business review, etc.). Provide monthly financial reporting for Spanish books (both Christian imprints and general market.) Provide direct supervision and oversight to editorial staff ensuring high quality of work is maintained always and development opportunities are available along the way. Qualifications Work Experience: 6+ years' experience in Christian publishing, content development/promotion, media, Christian Academia or related. Education: BA in English or Spanish, Communications, Journalism, Theology or Biblical Studies, business administration, marketing, or related fields. Knowledge: Knowledge of Spanish grammar, spelling, and punctuation, Proficient in Microsoft Office. Knowledge of the Bible, and key Christian books/authors on the market, attuned to doctrinal landscape of the Christian market (including denominational and tribal distinctives) with a solid grasp of orthodox evangelical theology and thinking. Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of competitive books and Bible study resources, Knowledge of the major distribution channels, including CBA, ABA, Mass, church/ministry, international, Awareness of trends within the Spanish church worldwide. Skills: Bilingual (Spanish/English); fully proficient in both written and oral communication. Management, leadership, and professional development skills. Business acumen to understand and use financial data. Organization and administrative ability. Excellent communication skills including strong presentation skills. Excellent interpersonal skills that facilitate team building and cross-functional work in organizations. Ability to understand and negotiate publishing contracts.
