The Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) supports the operation of an animal hospital by providing medical care to patients in accordance with veterinary practice regulations. The RVT guides and trains medical support staff, ensures smooth workflow during shifts, and communicates effectively with team members and clients. Note: The Registered Veterinary Technician title is used in the following states based on state-specific licensing and credentialing requirements: Alaska, Georgia, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Kentucky. Responsibilities may vary depending on the hospital and/or state. Maintain clear and accurate medical, client, and case records using appropriate terminology and grammar. Qualifications * High school diploma or equivalent. * Graduate of an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technician program. * Current state veterinary technician license in good standing. * One year of experience in the veterinary industry is preferred. * Proficiency in a range of technical skills including laboratory procedures, pharmacy, radiology, surgery, dental care, and nursing. * Ability to administer subcutaneous (SQ), intramuscular (IM), and intravenous (IV) injections. * Knowledge of commonly used veterinary medications including dosage, side effects, and client communication. * Understanding of anesthesia and patient recovery monitoring, with the ability to recognize and report changes in patient status. * Ability to remain calm and efficient in stressful or fast-paced environments, including medical emergencies. * Strong verbal and written communication skills. * Comfort and confidence in handling animals of all sizes and temperaments.
