- Prepare design layouts, diagrams, wiring harnesses, electrical systems, bills of material, and drawings/schematics of components and assemblies with supporting calculations, in support of the overall system design.
- Create and revise harness drawings. Perform other engineering-related tasks as required i.e., analysis, bills of material creation, manufacturing support, layout work, and supplier contact.
- Design vehicle hardware components to meet internal and customer requirements.
- Enforce the proper use of engineering criteria and drawing standards. Ensure that technical issues are conducted within the framework of company policies and procedures.
- Selection of wire harness engineering content such as cable ampacity sizing, heat shrink mechanical sizing, weatherization, and proper wire splicing
- Receive, create and record Wrike tickets for tracking of assignments
- Translation of engineering requirements to source and vendor control documentation
- Cataloging of vendor and supplier-controlled components, models and specifications
- Release of specifications, drawings and ECNs within the PDM system
- Interface with product design team, and mechanics to ensure accurate product implementation
- Generation of electrical schematics and wiring diagrams from sketches, drawings, datasheets and verbal direction
- Produce and revise engineering Bills of Materials in the Product Life Cycle system.
- Support inventory control with identifying special components or processes and/or alternative components
- Oversee wiring assemblers and manage consumable and tooling inventory
- Conduct QC checks of wiring harnesses per internal and customer standards
- Diagnosis and troubleshoot vehicle harness installation issues and train employees on proper corrective actions
- Checking of drawings per company and ASME Y14 standards
- Generation of Engineering Change Notices per company standards and engineering direction
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent
- 3 years of industry experience
- Experience with wire harness 3D design, wire harness installation drawings, wiring diagrams, and 3D modeling of complex multi-breakout harnesses.
- Proficiency with harness design software, especially Solidworks Electrical, Zuken E3, etc.
- Knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 harness design and fabrication standards
- Competent at end-to-end definition and selection of connectors, wires, and other harness hardware.
- Experience with hands-on cable assembly and design and the ability to perform independently with minimal oversight is necessary
