Washington College academic affairs director job description

Washington College, a NCAA Division III member of the Centennial Conference, is accepting applications for Director of Athletic Communications and Academic Affairs. This is an administrative level position in the department of athletics and heads up the departments communications efforts.

The Director of Athletic Communications oversees a staff of one full-time employee, one part-time employee, and a student game-day staff of approximately 12-18 students. Among other things, this position manages the Colleges athletics web site, main athletics social media channels, prepares game recaps and news releases, oversees the athletics communications budget, produces game-day programs, and oversees the departments live-streaming efforts. The position also oversees staffing at home events, including statistics, public address, photography, and live streaming.

As part of the departments administrative team, this position attends weekly Administrative Team meetings and monthly Student Affairs staff meetings in addition to regular Athletic Department staff meetings. This position also serves on the Colleges Athletic Hall of Fame Board.

This is a salaried position that requires frequent evening and weekend hours, both on-site and from home. Given the frequent requirement of work outside of business hours, a flexible schedule during business hours is possible.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree required. 3-5 years of athletics communications experience in a collegiate setting required, at least 5 years strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of desktop publishing and web content editing (preferably with PrestoSports) required. Familiarity with statistical software required. Some familiarity with live video production required. Experience managing a budget and staff strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of NCAA Division III rules preferred.

  • Strong understanding, reputation, and relationships in the energy sector with a network of agency, regulatory, and legislative contacts, including extensive experience at or with the Department of Energy
  • A collaborative style with outstanding written and oral communication skills, including a track record of good judgment in navigating politically sensitive topics with company executives, high-level officials, and the broader public
  • Based out of the DC area with ability and willingness to travel, both in and around DC, as well as to company sites in California and Washington state, with potential for occasional international travel

About the Role

We are looking for a Director of State and Local Government and Industry Affairs to join our Legal and Public Affairs team.This is a remote position. You will advance Total Wine & More's legislative, regulatory, political and community positions and issues with state and local officials, community and civic leaders, opinion leaders and shapers, industry members and the public. You will promote our image externally, ensuring that image is positive and consistent for all audiences. You will work cooperatively with internal departments to identify issues that require government affairs solutions and creates and executes an action plan to achieve our goals. You will have outstanding organizational and exemplary personal communication skills. You will have demonstrated skills in regulated industries, workings of state and local legislative, regulatory and administrative responsibilities, the art of negotiation, public relations and community outreach. You will report to the Vice President, Public Affairs & Community Relations.

You will

* Develop, provide direction for, and oversight of, government affairs efforts including direct and grassroots lobbying of elected officials and community leaders, legislative and regulatory issues management and political activities
