A major component of the 2 trillion dollar CARES Act was the Paycheck Protection Program.

The mission of the PPP was to help small businesses keep the lights on and their workers employed. Businesses in the state of Texas were issued 389,387 loans for over $31,097,439,954 in PPP funds. Those funds secured 4,519,665 jobs.

The city of Houston itself had 736,905 jobs saved, thanks to a staggering $5,043,535,753 in loans. 70% of the funds were used for loans over $150,000.

What businesses got the lion share of loan funds?

We analyzed the Small Business Administration to see the companies that got the largest PPP payouts. Below, we provide a full list of the 100 Houston companies that received the largest loans, but first here are the companies that received the most funds.

How We Determined The Companies That Received The Most PPP Loans In Houston, Tx

We scoured 4.8 million records released on loan level data from the Small Business Administration. We then narrowed it down to companies in Houston, Texas.

While loans less than $150,000 had an exact dollar amount, loans higher than $150,000 were sorted into ranges:

$5-10 million
$2-5 million
$1-2 million
$350,000-1 million
$150,000-350,000

For each range, we went with the lowest amount, since we can safely say they received at least that much. From there, we sorted each company secondarily by the number of jobs retained. So a company in the 5-10 million range that used their loan to secure 500 jobs would rank higher than one that only secured 100. Some companies have yet to submit the number of employees retained, as the deadline has not passed yet.

For Houston, 14 companies were in the maximum loan range and each had 500 retained employees (the maximum amount submitted), leading to the top 14 you see above.
