Find a Job You Really Want In
It’s not always easy choosing between the military and choosing to get an education. While it’s possible to do both, the massive commitment each requires (of your time or otherwise) can make it exceedingly difficult to try to do both at the same time, even if the opportunity to do so presents itself.
But it’s actually the lucky ones for whom the choice of one over the other is a choice at all. Many people are unable to afford to get a college education without help from programs like the G.I. Bill — for some people in this situation, the military is simply a means to an end, a trial that has to be endured while they go about their true goal of obtaining a quality education. For others, military service is a reward unto itself, and the opportunity to become better educated is just a nice bonus that they can take advantage of while serving their country.
Whatever your reasons, programs like the ROTC can help make these kinds of decisions seem less like one or the other. The Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) is primarily for those students who intend to become officers upon entering the military, and the program allows them to delay military service until after they graduate from college while still letting them reap some of the monetary benefits of service. Not all schools offer ROTC programs, but for those that do, the competition can often be fierce.
This got us thinking — with so many schools offering ROTC programs out there, which of these schools were the most likely to keep their students employed after college was over and done with?
We were curious. So, using IPEDS data, we looked at all ROTC and sorted them by their percentage of employed alumni, which gave us our full list of the top ROTC schools for jobs.
The full list can be found further down, but first, here’s a quick top ten.
- University of Dayton

How We Did It
We used an official list of schools with ROTC program offerings from the Army’s official website in order to form the basis of our list.
Then, looking through data from the Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data System, we found the percentage of graduated students from each of these schools who were employed 6 years after graduating from the school. We ranked each of these schools based on this percentage, the schools with the highest percentages being ranked the highest.
That’s it! Does your college make the top ten? Read on to the full list to find out.
