INTRODUCTION• The Appliance Mechanic position is located at the United States Army Base at Fort Meade, MD.• The core working hours are 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.• Compensation is $31.67 per hour. • The Appliance Mechanic opportunity is a full-time, non-exempt position; employees are eligible for overtime pay should it be necessary.• This position requires pre-employment criminal background checks, government security clearances, and drug testing.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES• The Appliance Mechanic installs, services, and repairs stoves, refrigerators, dishwashing machines, and other electrical household or commercial appliances.• Use hand tools, test equipment, and following wiring diagrams and manufacturer's specifications.• Connects appliance to the power source and test meters, such as wattmeter, ammeter, or voltmeter, observes readings on meters and graphic recorders, examines appliance during an operating cycle to detect excess vibration, overheating, fluid leaks and loose parts, and disassembles appliances and examines mechanical and electrical components.• Traces electrical circuits by the following diagram and locates shorts and grounds, use an ohmmeter, calibrates timers' thermostats and adjusts contact points, cleans and washes parts, using a wire brush, buffer, and solvent to remove carbon, grease, and dust.• Replaces worn or defective parts, such as switches, pumps, bearings, transmissions, belts, gears, blowers, and faulty wiring, repairs and adjusts appliance motors, reassembles appliances, adjusts pulleys and lubricates moving parts, using hand tools and lubricating equipment.• Trouble-shoot, service, and maintain commercial kitchen appliances, refrigeration systems, ice machines, steamers, cooktops, ovens, and food processing appliances• Troubleshoot HVAC control components to determine design or operations deficiencies; research and order OEM/universal replacement parts; repair or replace defective equipment, components, or wiring; test electrical circuits and components for continuity, using electrical test equipment; reassemble and test equipment following repairs.• Inspect and test system to verify system compliance with plans and specifications; discuss heating-cooling system malfunctions with users to isolate problems or verify that malfunctions have been corrected; record and report all faults, deficiencies, and other unusual occurrences; recommend, develop and perform preventive and general maintenance procedures.• Layout and connect electrical wiring between controls and equipment according to wiring diagram, using electrician's hand tools; install auxiliary components to heating-cooling equipment, such as expansion and discharge valves, air ducts, pipes, blowers, dampers, flues, and stokers. • Follow blueprints, study blueprints, design specifications, and manufacturer's recommendations to ascertain the configuration of heating or cooling equipment components and ensure the proper installation of components.• Install, connect, and adjust thermostats, humidistat, and timers• Generate work orders• Performs related duties as needed or assigned

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS• The incumbent must stand/walk 50% of the work time; sit 50%. They must be able to lift/carry 100 pounds and climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach. These requirements are necessary for handling chemicals, supplies, and equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS• High School Diploma and two (2) years' experience trade-specific HVAC-R schooling experience required• Must have four years' experience of HVAC-R and be proficient in electrical schematic reading• Must be familiar with commercial cooking kitchen appliances and refrigeration freezers and refrigeration units• Must be able to understand written and verbal instructions in English• Considerable knowledge of practices, tools, equipment, and techniques associated with the trade• Must be able to pass the required government background check, criminal background checks, and drug testing

**Pay Range: Starting at $21.93 but can go up to $32.90/Hour based upon knowledge base and years of experience**
