Background Check Information

JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for skilled installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of various electrical systems, controls, and equipment located around County facilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess a valid State of Utah Journeyman Electrician's License.
Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this position. Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing. May be subject to post-accident and reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Installs, repairs, replaces, modifies, and tests new and existing electrical circuits, systems, fixtures, panels, switches, breakers, and controls located in and near buildings and structures utilizing Journeyman to Master level skills.
Troubleshoots problem areas and inspects for defective equipment and faulty wiring.
Installs, repairs, modifies, and programs various types of electronic controlled equipment at a Journeyman to Master level.
Uses and maintains various types of hand and/or power tools.
Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
Performs periodic maintenance and inspection of electrical distribution components to prevent premature failure and/or outages.
Maintains and repairs specialized electrical equipment such as generators, Uninterruptable Power Systems, Lighting inverters, and Power Correction Systems.

Knowledge of:

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires extensive physical labor, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects up to 75 pounds; kneeling, bending, standing, walking, and climbing ladders.
Work involves exposure to all weather conditions, dirt, dust, fumes, chemicals, smoke, and/or loud noises.
Work may be performed on scaffolding, cranes, and ladders at heights of 30 or more feet, or in close quarters such as manholes or attics.
Subject to electric shock, arc flash, cuts, and bruises.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITION
This position is subject to being called to work before or after the scheduled shift in the event of an emergency.
Duties in multiple locations around Salt Lake County, including the Adult Detention Center.

Job Description:
An Electrical Apprentice possesses basic knowledge of new construction and demo electrical power installation including but not limited to alterations additions and /or repairs of electrical systems, conductors and associated materials and equipment with in the electrical industry. ApprenticeElectricians are responsible for planning, diagram, install, and repair electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels in addition to measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit (pipe or tubing), and pull wire through conduit. Consistently test circuits to ensure compatibility and safety of components, using instruments; such as the ohmmeter and other testing equipment.
Essential Functions include but are not limited to:
Dig trenches or hole for installation of conduit or supports, hand holes, man holes and foundations.
Install copper-clad ground rods, using a manual post driver.
Break up concrete, using air hammer, to facilitate installation, construction or repair of equipment.
Transport tools, materials, equipment and supplies to work site by hand truck, or heavy motorized truck.
Raise, lower or position equipment tools and materials using hoist hand line or block and tackle.
Inform journeyman of material needs.
Maintain tools and equipment and keep parts and supplies in order.
Perform semi-skilled and unskilled laboring duties related to the installation maintenance and repair of a wide variety of electrical systems and equipment.
Thread conduit ends, connect couplings and fabricate and secure conduit support brackets using hand tools.
Drill holes and pull or push wiring through openings, using hand and power tools.
Clean work area and tools.
Competencies:
AP1:
Must be able to interpret and follow the National Electric Code and comply with state and local building codes.
Must have all the tools located on the Apprentice Tool List.
Must be enrolled or scheduled to enroll in electrical apprenticeship program.
Must maintain valid apprenticeship card and have it on your person at all times during work hours.
Must be capable of following instructions, have good communication skills, and the ability to retain information.
Must be capable of identifying materials used in the trade.
Completion of required safety trainings.
Recommended completion of (16) electrical continuing education credits.
Must complete OSHA 10.
AP2:
Must be capable of installing raceways, PVC, EMT, Rigid, Flex, IMC & MC up to 1 ¼” hand bend with supervision.
Employee must have one (1) year of experience in the electrical trade.
Must have all tools listed in the Apprentice Tool List.
Must maintain valid apprenticeship card and have it on your person at all times during work hours.
Must be capable of following instructions, have good communication skills, and the ability to retain information.
Must be capable of identifying materials used in the trade.
Must be capable of making up single circuits and trim fixtures, with supervision.
Must have completed school year one with a passing grade.
Completion of required safety trainings.
Recommended completion of (16) electrical continuing education credits.
Must complete OSHA 10.
AP3:
Must be able to interpret and follow the National Electric Code and comply with State and local building codes.
Must be capable of installing raceways, PVC, EMT, Rigid, Flex, IMC & MC with supervision.

Must have all tools listed in the Apprentice Tool List.

Responsible for assisting with inspection, repair, installation, and wiring of all plant electrical and electronic apparatus, devices, and circuits of any voltage including power distribution lines, transformers, and related equipment.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES**
+ Assist Lead Electrician, Electrician I and Electrician II positions with the inspection, installation, dismantling, repairing, and rewiring of all types of plant equipment, control boards, distribution lines, transformers, and related equipment. Assist with instruction and training for ApprenticeElectrician, as requested.
+ Perform service and repair on electrical apparatus, including splicing, soldering, taping, and repairing cords, switches, and light sockets. This includes regularly working on energized circuits of up to 600 volts alternating current (AC) and/or direct current (DC), and near circuits of 350 kilovolt (KV) AC and less.
+ Assist in troubleshooting plant electrical problems. Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition. Procure and return materials and equipment, as required. Perform cleaning duties, as assigned.
+ Proactively comply with all plant and cooperative safety policies and procedures. Safely maintain equipment and plant systems to provide the best plant availability while complying with all environmental and regulatory requirements.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
+ Associate's degree in an Electrical Technology program and 3 years of related electrical experience; or
+ An approved electrical apprenticeship and 2 years of related electrical experience; or
+ A high school diplima or equivalent (GED or HSED); and 5 years of experience as an electrician or instrumentation technician.
+ 1 year experience as an Electrician at an operating industrial or power plant.
+ A valid driver's license.
**This position is identified as a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) related position, which may allow physical and/or logical access to Bulk Electric System (BES) cyber related assets or systems.
