Job Description: POSITION TITLE: Electrician POSITION PURPOSE: To repair and maintain electrical, air conditioning and lighting systems. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Responsible for maintenance and/or repair of electrical and lighting systems as well as lighting fixtures. Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools. Diagnose malfunctioning systems, and locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system. Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes. Place conduit (pipes or tubing) inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes. . Make periodic inspections of electrical systems and equipment to determine source of possible defects in order to prevent unexpected breakdowns. Regularly check electrical equipment, such as transformers, circuit breakers and other electrical equipment. Responsible for reviewing the blueprints to install outlets, circuits, load centers and other forms of electrical equipment. Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components. After installing the electrical equipment, test all connections to ensure all components are working properly and safely. Able to act expeditiously when electrical systems and equipment breakdowns occur. Responsible for the maintenance of the air conditioning. Diagnose the cause of problems and/or failures in heating/air conditioning/ventilation systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair and/or replacements. Review blueprints, install air conditioning systems, test systems for proper functioning, perform emergency repairs, maintain tools, order supplies, and make routine adjustments to maximize operational efficiency. Inform management about the extent of the condition of electrical, air conditioning and lighting systems and make recommendations regarding the continuation of operations and how to repair the systems in question. Provide preliminary sketches and cost estimates for materials and services. Provide assistance during emergencies by operating floodlights and generators, placing flares, and driving needed vehicles. Manage and complete all service tasks that are assigned by management, including those that may or may not be able to be categorized in the essential functions listed above. : Electricians perform the full range of journey-level skilled electrical and related work, including installation, maintenance, modification and repair of electrical apparatuses, equipment and systems. Responsibilities include installation and maintenance of typical and specialized electrical systems, and electrical support for related trades, such as HVAC and telecommunications, for both new installations and repairs/retrofitting. Electricians provide support services for campus events, such as setup and removal of temporary power, and routine operational duties such as tracking work orders, preparing cost estimates, maintaining inventory, monitoring and inspecting the work of contractors, preparing reports and ordering supplies. Electricians are required to be on standby for emergency repairs, as scheduled. In addition to performing the duties of an Electrician, the Lead Electrician is responsible for supervising, instructing and working with a small group of electricians and semi-skilled assistants, ensuring safety procedures are followed, laying-out and coordinating the work flow for jobs, preparing materials lists and ordering supplies for jobs. The Lead Electrician spends the majority of time working as a skilled electrician, with ancillary lead work and project planning responsibilities. As part of the normal duties of this position, the incumbent may perform the work outlined in the Position Descriptions of subordinates, as well as the work described in the CSU Classification Standards for the Electrician series. Facilities Management and Services (FMS) is a large, multifaceted department consisting of employees working various shifts and providing diverse administrative and operational services campus wide. Required Education and Experience: These abilities would normally be acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard electrician's apprenticeship program. AND A minimum of one year experience as a journey-level electrician and includes work coordination responsibilities. Preferences: Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills: * Have demonstrated experience leading, coordinating, and supervising a team in an electrical skilled-trades environment. * Possess greater length of time working as a licensed, journey-level electrician. Time Base: Full-time Pay Plan: 12/12 Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer: Mon-Thurs 7:00am-5:30pm CSU Classification Salary Range: $80,460 (Step 1) - $117,216 (Step 20) per year.
