SEL seeks an Application Engineer - Automation to provide technical support to customers in France and Italy with fluency in both languages! The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge in power systems, software, integration and automation, industrial controls, PLCs, industry protocols such as (IEC-61850, DNP, 60870-5, Modbus, and 61131 programming languages), Ethernet systems, protocol analyzers, and industry SCADA practices. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop expertise in power system automation, and all related SEL products.Help customers apply SEL products through visits, demonstrations, training courses, email, and telephone contact.Contribute to product specifications, application and testing software, and literature.Participate in SEL marketing and sales activities and industry technical meetings and conferences.Teach in customer on-site and online visits, SEL University courses, and hands-on seminars for customers and SEL personnel.Maintain customer application and quality information, and develop industry relationships.Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World-Class Manufacturing principles.Understand. Create. Simplify. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent engineering degree) Three or more years' experience in power systems, industry practices, and software, integration and automation, industrial controls, PLCs, industry protocols (IEC-61850, DNP, 60870-5, Modbus, and 61131 programming languages), Ethernet systems, protocol analyzers, and industry SCADA practices Listens carefully; provides positive, helpful and professional communication to internal and external customers in a clear and concise manner. Demonstrates composure and professionalism under difficult circumstances.Takes on the challenge of unfamiliar tasks. Perform essential functions for the Sales, Applications areas in the form of product demonstrations, time studies, and post sales customer applications support. Besides the functional responsibility of applications for customer demos, the Smart Factory Applications Engineer - Automated Cutting will also support the operations team and ensure the equipment to be running properly in the fully connected environment of TRUMPF Chicago.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities

Conduct best in class customer product and production flow demonstrations at TUSC and trade shows to increase product sales

Provide customer application & sales support (phone and remote) utilizing TRUMPF digital solutions as well as post-sales expertise support during the initial production ramp up phase at customer sites

Perform parts analysis for producibility / time studies and produce customer sample parts at the TRUMPF Smart Factory if requested Continuously excel the technology knowledge by participating in training and testing functions of the machine to provide best in class support for our customers with daily production challenges

Be responsible for the assigned technology in the production showroom environment, key performance indicators (i.e., on time delivery, quality, machine utilization) and support operations for real customer parts production

Organize and provide customer product training courses with a focus on programming and operating equipment

Expand knowledge beyond assigned technology and learn integrated cutting, bending and welding solutions and their interaction with digitally connected production processes storage and TRUMPF's Manufacturing Execution

System Consult and demonstrate latest machine technology related solutions for Industry 4.0.

Utilization of all hardware / software / services that pertain to the technology to become a resident expert / go to person for the technology

Perform entire system walkthroughs in the showroom from order to shipping

Collaborate with product centers and other TRUMPF subsidiaries to provide feedback on product development / improvement ideas for existing or new products in the field of automated laser cutting

Travel estimate is 30% as average, with focus in USA, Mexico and Canada

Experience

Sheet metal experience and / or TRUMPF product knowledge a plus.

Experience with CAD, programming and machine tool product knowledge desired.

Knowledge of manufacturing technologies and production software systems.

Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal are required as this position involves extensive contact with customers and sales representatives.

Ability to regularly lift 40 lbs. and willing to operate forklifts / overhead cranes.

Education

Minimum 2-year technical school degree with a solid math background or the suitable equivalent of education and work experience.
