Responsibilities:

* Work from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, check-out and troubleshooting functions.
* Performs operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment.
* Assists in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions.
* Assists in the design, construction, test and check-out of test equipment.
* Uses manufacturing, test, development or diagnostic equipment, including but not limited to, test programs, oscilloscopes, signal generators and specialized test apparatus.

Requirements:

* Two year electromechanical degree
* Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Your Career

The IT Automation Engineer at Palo Alto Networks will be responsible for driving initiatives for both Google and Proofpoint. You will be expected to work with vendors, run meetings, train support desk, and cross-train across multiple products. They will be responsible for requirements gathering, generating meaningful documentation, and understanding infrastructure (GCP) and cloud architectures while working with the team and the end users to create automation using XSOAR, a Palo Alto Networks product.

Python experience is required with the ability to grow their skill set, alongside a fundamental understanding of APIs across various SaaS apps and PaaS environments. The candidate must identify opportunities where new workflows can be created and identify existing workflows that are undocumented in an effort to create or standardized processes and procedures.

You will also be a part of new initiatives, services, and technology requests on behalf of IT. Working closely with IT and InfoSec, as well as leadership to understand and prioritize requirements, translate them into project plans, and will work with platform experts to develop a scalable solution

Your Impact

Work closely with IT-End User Engineering, and IT-Infrastructure, to understand technology capability gaps across our integrated Enterprise Mail Routing infrastructure

Anticipate technical needs by translating business requirements into a flexible technical architecture across multiple products - enable strategy, use cases, and current/ future needs, building with an eye towards both quality and scale

Partner with cross-functional teams to develop a shared transformation roadmap - drive alignment and progress on transformational initiatives and deliverables

Drive and coordinate development of system documentation, privacy, testing, and UAT requirements

Utilize industry best practices and data-driven insights to provide strategic guidance and direction to our leadership

Partner with InfoSec to scale training, best practices, and tech capability roadmaps; ensure that End User Engineering, Support Desk and other administrators of the Gmail and Proofpoint environments understand the capabilities available to them to help them with their day to day activities

Communicate proactively with internal stakeholders throughout a project's life cycle across functional areas - articulate technical concepts to non-technical audiences leading with the “what” and the “why” over the “how”

Minimum qualifications:

+ Bachelor's Degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

+ 10 years of experience with Data Center Technology, Optics Engineering, testing pluggable optical transceiver components.

+ 5 years of experience in Technical Leadership, Project Management, and Troubleshooting.

+ 3 years of experience in Test Automation using one programming language (e.g., Python, C++).

Preferred qualifications:

+ Experience in Linux or other Unix operating systems (Ubuntu or RHEL) and shell scripts; Proficiency in Python.

+ Knowledge of network infrastructure involving NIC, L2 switch, routers, optic modules such as SFP/QSFP/OSFP, single-mode/multi-mode fiber.

+ Knowledge of computer systems: physical, functional, logical, mechanical, electrical, software, thermal etc.

+ Ability to read and understand technical drawings (i.e. network diagrams, datasheets, and written work instructions).

+ Ability to root-cause a failure in a complex fiber optic testbed.

+ Excellent technical leadership, collaboration, and written/verbal communication skills.

In the R&D lab, you design test equipment for prototypes of our machinery and develop the protocols used to scale these tests for the entire global team. Working closely with design engineers, you give input on designs to improve our hardware until you're sure it meets Google's standards of quality and reliability.

+ Lead various optical module and/or system prototype bringup and qualification testing activities by building and testing multi-rack, multi-system testbeds.

+ Develop automation scripts and codes using Python and C to scale up testing.

+ Coordinate with a team of hardware designers, qualification and test engineers, on project planning within hardware development labs, and ensure adequate resources are available.

+ Manage lab budgets for test resources, equipment, and systems rack facility related projects.

+ Act as a technical lead for the optical test team.
