Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain company history timeline

1969

The organization began in 1969 as a Boys’ Club with a very modest operation at the Pitt County Fairgrounds.

1973

Established in 1973, the Boys & Girls Club of Watertown has evolved from a juvenile diversion program serving boys out of a vacant downtown store, into a highly visible youth development program inspiring over 2,500 girls and boys annually.

1984

In 1984, the Board of Directors raised $526,000 in order to construct a new facility adjacent to the high school and indoor swimming pool.

1992

In 1992 the Jack Minges Unit was built to accommodate the growing need for youth services and to include girls in the membership.

2001

Arrow Prep began at the Main Club Site at the start of the 2001 school year to provide a kindergarten preparation program for 3 through 5 year olds.

2007

The Grady-White Boats/E.R. Lewis Family Unit was opened in 2007.

2010

The Club in Ayden relocated in April of 2010 and was named the Doctor Ledyard E. Ross Unit.

2015

In 2015, the organization changed its name to Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain to properly represent its presence in Pitt, Lenoir, Beaufort, Greene, Martin, Carteret and Craven Counties.
