KREM TV CBS / KSKN TV CW, the TEGNA stations in Spokane Washington has an opening for a Broadcast Director. You will be responsible for directing live newscasts as well as recorded webcasts, cut-ins, local programs, remote digital productions and commercial projects. This position is a full time, individual contributor, non-union position that reports to the Broadcast Supervisor.
Responsibilities:

* Direct KREM 2 Newscasts while operating the production switcher.
* Build production rundown for production crew.
* Assist News Producers with production elements for KREM 2 News.
* Operate audio board when assigned.
* Operate handheld cameras for KREM 2 News when assigned.
* Direct live elements for KREM 2 News on location.
* Promotions production for KREM 2 News and some Syndicated programming.

Job Requirements:

Requirements:

* 1 year of experience as director of live newscasts in either a professional or educational setting.
* Working knowledge of newsroom systems such as AP ENPS news creation software, control room systems, Sony switchers, audio board, automated video playout systems, teleprompter, robotic studio cameras, and template-based graphic systems.
* Must be capable of creating high quality production elements, both creatively and technically
* Ability to lead a group of people to achieve successful newscasts.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

**Employment Type:** Full Time
**Primary Function**

The Broadcast Director will lead the broadcast team in programs for an international news client, working in a brand new, state-of-the-art studio in Washington, D.C. The Director will be responsible for coordinating with the news team and leading the technical crew in airing fast-paced newscasts.

This position will report to the Head of Production.

**Duties & Responsibilities**

+ In association with News Producers, determine the visual requirements of any given program and plan how to meet those requirements

+ Effective operation and execution, but not limited to, of the following:

+ Technical Direct/Direct Live Show - Knowledge of Sony switcher, Sony ELC and Avid ecosystem.

+ Direct all elements of on-air elements, audio, and video of a live news television program or segment

+ Blocking, coding of rundown and production execution of a newscast, pre-recorded show, live cut-ins, pre-recorded cut-ins and station ID's

+ Studio Control Operation - Knowledge of Vizrt Graphics Operation Software

+ Robo-Cam Operation

+ Lighting Operation

+ Non-linear Editing - Knowledge of INews Avid software

+ Inbound feed management, prep/processing and routing (Microwave & Satellite) - Knowledge of Avid Capture Recording Equipment.

+ Communication with all departments at DC studio, as well as, studio in London.

+ Must program video switcher to provide composite effects required in any given program

+ Operate video switcher during live or recorded shows, cueing between cameras, live feeds graphics and composite effects

+ Keep track of changing program rundowns using iNews AVID Systems

+ Enable the smooth operation of the video switcher by storing effects in a sensible, ordered way

+ Document new effects and changes to video switcher configuration so other Technical Directors can quickly find new effects and are made aware of changes which will affect them

+ Recognize faults with video switcher and liaise with engineering department on the best way of correcting those faults

+ Liaise closely with graphics operator and creative department to establish how a production's agreed appearance can be achieved on screen

+ Supervise technical crew in facility

+ Liaise with Senior Multi-Skilled Operator when required to program visual effects which have related sound which must be triggered by the Switcher

+ Ensure that all video sources and remotes are of high technical standards

+ Perform other duties as assigned

**Skills & Qualifications**

+ Understanding of news and current affairs and an eye for detail

+ Knowledge of Sony ELC or other automated production system

+ Technical aptitude and always willing to learn

+ Adaptable to change in technology and environment

+ Self-starter that can operate under minimal supervision

+ Able to work in a stressful and fast paced News environment

+ Able to work in a multi-cultural environment

+ Able to work in a 24/7 news environment Ability to work well with others in a collaborative environment or as an individual

+ Must be organized and punctual

**Education & Experience**

+ Bachelor's degree preferred in a technical capacity

+ Minimum of 4 years' experience working within a major-market news broadcast environment

+ Previous operational experience with the following equipment will be highly regarded: Sony XVS-6000 switcher, Vinten camera robotics, iNews Avid system, Sony's ELC systems, VizRT graphic systems, ETC Congo lighting desks and Calrec audio desks
