Cable system installer/maintainer job description

Being able to communicate across the battlefield and around the world is crucial to mission success. As a Cable Systems Installer/Maintainer, you will install the lines and equipment that allow units to connect across secure channels.

Cable Systems Installer/Maintainers are primarily responsible for installing, operating, and maintaining cable and wire communications systems, communication security devices, and associated equipment, including communications, and electric cables between utility poles.
Perform tests on cable communications systems and circuit groups
Operate manual and motorized cable construction equipment
Install and repair circuits and wiring
Perform maintenance on power generators

Job training for a Cable Systems Installer/Maintainer consists of 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and eight weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT). Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field.

• Minimum of 0-3 years in the installation of Information transport systems, specifically inside plant premise cabling for copper, coax and fiber optic infrastructures.
• Knowledge of installation methods, terminating, testing and documenting copper, coax and optical fiber infrastructures is a plus, but not required.
• Computer/software skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office products a plus, but not required.

Duties

The main duties of this position are listed below. These define clearer expectations for this position. These include, but are not limited to:

• This is an entry level position at BPG and we will provide the employee with the basic required industry tools to perform cable pulling and termination tasks in the field. It is the responsibility of the employee to provide additional tools to perform this job and BPG will provide you with a required tool list for the position.
• This position may require interfacing with BPG clients and partners daily. A professional look and attitude are required always.
• Must always have with you and utilize the required and provided PPE gear for the tasks being performed.
• This is a working position at BPG and requires the Installer to participate in the physical installation of the infrastructure.
• Report immediately any installation field issues to either the assigned on-site Technician or Foreman.
• Responsible for immediately notifying your Project Manager of any field personnel issues.
• Responsible for your own transportation to and from job sites. Carpooling is not allowed unless authorized by your Project Manager.
• Attend customer meetings as required.
• Attend and participate in all required BPG staff meetings and events.
• While not assigned a tablet to input hours directly into HCSS, you are responsible for informing office of daily hours worked.
• Maintain and promote a positive attitude and uphold the core values of the organization.
