May 22, 2007 Supermajority of Ada and Canyon County voters passed referendum to establish a community college district, enabling the creation of the College of Western Idaho (CWI).
In June 2007, the Albertson Foundation announced it was donating $10 million to help found the college.

November 2013 - The Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education approves the start-up of a Physical Therapist Assistant consortium program delivered by CWI, College of Southern Idaho, Lewis-Clark State College, and North Idaho College

May 4, 2014 Students with CWI’s Business Professionals of America chapter win 13 awards, including four top-three finishes, at national competition.
Fall 2014 Renovation of CWI’s Micron Center for Professional Technical Education receives national recognition for Outstanding Design by American Schools and Universities Magazine.
May 9, 2015 Over 1,100 degree and certificate candidates, along with GED completers, are honored at CWI’s annual spring commencement ceremony.
August 2015 Math095, a new method for teaching college prep math, is introduced at CWI.
April 14, 2016 The first campus art project, Spirit of Collaboration, is unveiled at CWI’s Micron Center for Professional Technical Education.
June 2016 Members of CWI’s SkillsUSA chapter won medals in a school record five events, including the College’s first gold medal, at nationals.
July 26, 2016 First class of graduates from CWI’s Law Enforcement program are recognized in a ceremony.
November 8, 2016 CWI’s proposed bond measure falls short of two-thirds majority vote needed to pass.
