Responsibilities


The Director of Nursing is responsible for all aspects of nursing care delivery in the facility. They will assume responsibility as a department lead of the OR, Preop, and PACU. The Director of Nursing is also responsible for overseeing the facilities quality improvement, risk management, infection control, and education of the teammates. As a Registered Nurse, the Director of Nursing is responsible to work in patient care. The Director of Nursing is also responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and coordinating patient care from admission to discharge.


+ Provides leadership oversight to ensure patient needs are met in accordance with instructions of physician and facility’s policies & procedures.


+ Demonstrates respect for co-workers & leadership and develops positive working relationships within departments.


+ Communicates with courtesy when interacting with patients, physicians, procedure schedulers, vendors and the public – in person, on the telephone, or by email.


+ Analyzes and correlates clinical data with patient’s medical and nursing care.

Under the direction of the Vice-President of Community Health, the Director of Community Health leads efforts to further the community outreach mission at DFCI to meet the needs of historically marginalized and at-risk populations. The overarching goal of all initiatives is to demonstrate a reduction in health inequities and a measurable improvement in community health outcomes in our priority communities. In this highly visible position, the Director also oversees and is held accountable for all compliance related to DFCI's community outreach efforts, and aligns community benefits mission with the Inclusion, Diversity and Equity strategy to facilitate DFCI's role in addressing social determinants of health and cancer health equity.

Leads the effort to conduct a community health needs assessment, disseminate the findings, and use the data as a platform for new program priorities. Identifies ways to improve access to care for our priority communities. Develops programs and partnerships to educate diverse populations about cancer control. Oversee health education and screening programs including breast, HPV, sun safety, prostate cancer education, tobacco control, and survivorship programs directed to at-risk populations.

Works with evaluator to research evidence-based models and integrate metrics into community health programs and activities.

Works with DFCI satellite representative to integrate community health efforts in those geographic locations.

Identifies and evaluates new community partnerships to improve cancer prevention and early detection for underserved populations. Responsible for regulatory compliance on reporting of community benefits, including the annual report to the Attorney General's Office, to the IRS, Determination of Need (CHI) and to the City of Boston Assessing Department.

Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders including coalitions, community-based organizations, public health entities, hospitals and providers to identify and address priority areas of need among diverse populations.

Supports the organization's mission, vision, and values by exhibiting the following behaviors: excellence and competence, collaboration, innovation, respect, personalization, commitment to community, accountability, equity, and ownership.

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in psychology, social work, public health, health policy, health care management or related field preferred.
