Being a Community Relations Coordinator is hard work but perfect for an outgoing person who has good communication skills and socially responsible. So if you are one of those people who always raised the hand in the classroom, interceded with estranged classmates, and gave speeches at the end of the school year, this job is for you.

Make no mistake, many companies are frowned upon by communities, either due to their liberal business practices or the environmental implications of their production, and to deal with this situation; it is always good to have an excellent Community Relations Coordinator.

The person in charge of this work must deal with the community on behalf of the company to show that it is not only important in the economic development of the society, but that it's willing to collaborate to meet local needs. For this, the Community Relations Coordinator must carry out educational campaigns and multimedia projects in order to convince the community of the positive role that the company plays.

Besides the effective and outgoing characteristics of the person in this position, some academic training in marketing, business administration, and customer service are valuable. By meeting these requirements, you can aspire to a salary that is around $44,000 a year, which is not negligible.

What general advice would you give to a community relations coordinator?

Getting a journalism job out of college is always tough and, here we are, in the middle of a global pandemic with historic unemployment, so it's going to be even tougher. That said, I have already had students, who graduated in May, hired for jobs in the field. But, my general advice here is to be realistic about your situation and move accordingly. Let's say you have to start making your student loan payments. You likely aren't going to be able to supplement an entry-level position with a serving job right now, so maybe you have to take the responsibility in education, or marketing. That's OK. If that is the practical route you have to go, do it, but keep your journalism contacts fresh. Keep looking for great story ideas and pursue them on a freelance basis. You are too young, at this point, to make a career mistake that is going to derail you. I had a recent grad interview for a writing gig in NYC in March. She got a call that the publication froze hiring. She just accepted a job in her hometown school district and is working part-time in retail. It's temporary... and temporary is fine while the entire country has its finger on the pause button.
