St. Lawrence University is a competitive private university in Canton, New York that offers a progressive environment and approach to learning. Academics at St. Lawrence are primarily focused on the liberal arts and sciences. St. Lawrence is also governed by its students, with a group of elected students acting as liasions between student and faculty and staff. Student life at St. Lawrence is rich in creative arts offerings. A theatre, a fine art gallery and a performing arts center are just some examples. Additional student life options include athletic teams and student organizations. Admission to St. Lawrence is fairly competitive, with less than 40% of applicants getting accepted yearly. While the SAT scores of many admitted students are quite high, submission of such scores is optional. Admissions requirements vary based on the degree for which one is applying. Those applying for an associate's degree, for example, need not submit SAT or ACT scores, while those seeking admission to a bachelor's program do. Financial aid may be awarded to eligible students through scholarships, loans or military benefits. Students are also encouraged to seek out alternative financial aid sources.
