Residents of Omaha, Nebraska, who are seeking a career in hospitals, public health organizations and other health facilities, will benefit from Alegent Health School of Radiologic Technology. Academics at Alegent can be completed in 23 months, and the programs begin in late August. Academic success is measured through assignments and testing, clinical performance evaluations, CPR training, laboratory experiments, film critique assignments, critical thinking situations, quality assurance testing, case studies, research papers/reports, and scientific exhibits. Campus life is unique as, when not in class, students perform radiologic procedures with staff technologists and participate in all activities according to a scheduled rotation. Students are permitted to take 18 days personal days during their two years in the program. The admissions procedure for this school requires individuals to submit their application, test scores, transcripts, four references, and a $25 application fee between September and February. Each applicant must pass the Keystone Allied Health Entrance Exam given by the school in March each year, have completed all prerequisites, attend a personal interview, and submit a $100 tuition deposit within two weeks of acceptance. The tuition deposit is nonrefundable and funds a background check which prospective students must pass in order to meet ARRT requirements. In addition to these requirements, applicants must pass a physical with the Occupational Health department; this physical includes drug testing, and may test a student's ability to transport and lift patients, adjust or manipulate a variety of radiographic equipment for proper alignment, and move or operate portable equipment. The cost of tuition is the same for Nebraska residents and nonresidents. Alegent Health School of Radiologic Technology financial aid is available through Stafford loans and Pell grants.
