ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Provides programming support for machining parts, tools, or sheet metal on numerically controlled machine tools by writing programs of machine instructions in symbolic language to encode numerical control tape or direct numerical control database to regulate movement of machine along cutting path. 2. Selects proper cutting tools for each part, by taking into consideration such factors as speeds, types of cutters, feeds, and control system limitations to safely and economically produce a part to the manufacturing engineering specification or drawing. 3. Selects program routines for the most efficient computer calculation of dimensional and machining requirements for each part by computing angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outlining sequence of operations required to machine the part. 4. Determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, machine speeds, and feed rates by analyzing drawings, sketches, and design data of part. 5. Shows location of reference points and direction of cutting paths by preparing geometric layouts on graph paper or by using computer-assisted drafting/manufacturing software. 6. Modifies existing parts programs for engineering changes or program improvements and revises programs to eliminate instruction errors or omissions. 7. Observes operation of machine on trial run to prove taped or programmed instructions. Brief Description: The Sr. Machinist will oversee work on a manual lathe which ensures cutting a variety of mud motor parts. All machinists should ensure each part of all measurements are accurate and that all parts are usable after cutting. Rotating Machinery Services, Inc (RMS Inc.) is seeking a qualified Manual Machinist to work 1st shift and perform a variety of machining practices involved in turning, milling, drilling, threading operations, etc. They perform a detailed incoming inspection using micrometers and other fine measurement tools, learn to draw prints based on their findings and make recommendations on necessary critical repairs. As well rounded machinists and fabricators they are able to select and operate the proper machine shop tools to remove damaged babbitt and prepare the bearing for repair. They may also use raw materials, welding tools, flame spraying, or electrical test equipment to manufacture, alter or test components as part of the process. During the babbitting process they move the part to our custom foundry where they apply new babbitt using various casting techniques. Once the babbitt is cast, their skill at precision machining and metalworking outputs a finished bearing crafted to precise dimensions. Using non-destructive testing techniques and measurement tools they verify the quality and dimensions of their work before preparing the bearing to ship to the customer.
