DB2 z/OS System Administrator

Job Summary

BetaNXT provides comprehensive hosted services for retail brokerage customers’ end-to-end business

operations. The core of these services runs on multiple IBM Parallel Sysplex environments utilizing

IBM’s DB2 z/OS in a high-performance, highly-available data-sharing configuration. This DB2 Systems

Administrator role is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and administration of the DB2 z/OS

subsystem and associated support products to support the demands of the fast-paced, time-critical

financial trading industry.

Essential Responsibilities

• Installation/maintenance of IBM DB2 software and related 3rd

-party products utilizing SMP/E.

This includes working with IBM and other vendors to address product defects, issues, and usage

questions.

• Configuration of DB2 groups and subsystems in SYSPLEX data-sharing environment, supporting

IBM CICS, batch COBOL, and distributed access applications.

• Perform problem analysis and resolution, both technical and application related

• Performance and capacity tuning of system parameters and resources, utilizing various

monitoring and reporting tools.

• Responsible for DB2 availability and recovery strategies and procedures

• Documentation of policies and procedures in compliance with ISO 27002 standards.

• Provide secondary and level 2 support for the DBA staff on system issues, application

performance and overall DB2 issues.

Qualifications

• 10+ years IBM System Z experience and concepts, with considerable knowledge in the following:

o SMP/E

o IBM DB2 utilities, BMC Mainview for DB2 and CA Tools for DB2, particularly Detector,

Subsystem analyzer, RC migrator and Fast unload

o Experience with DB2 z/OS as a distributed server

o FLASH technology, DASD replication techniques

o z/OS Storage management

o RACF security management w/DB2

o Coupling Facility

o Networking concepts (IP, SNA)

o WLM concepts

o USS

• 5+ years IBM DB2 experience, with advanced knowledge in the following:

o Bufferpool/memory management

o DB2 internal structures (RID, EDM, BPs, etc.)

o Tablespace/Page structures

o Backup/recovery/logging facilities and strategies

o DB2 locking

o ZPARMS

o DB2 tracing/IFCIDs

• Experience in problem determination and analysis

• Analytical / critical / “outside-the-box” thinking in problem solving, especially in possible critical,

high-pressure situations.

The Mainframe DB2 Database Administrator/Engineer is responsible for setting up, managing, and evangelizing the culture, practices, processes, and tools that enable the business of Database development & maintenance, modernization/migration, and support/operations. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of agile and the various points at which development and operations could be improved by better process improvement, tools, automation, and metrics that can be gathered to improve JPMC transformation.
Experience in database design, infrastructure architecture disciplines, and business processes Ability to work collaboratively in teams and develop meaningful relationships to achieve common goals. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field or the foreign equivalent. 6+ years of overall experience with an emphasis on Database Administration/ Engineering - Database design/development, Integration, Performance monitoring & tuning, Systems re-engineering and Operations support Advanced knowledge of DB2 for z/OS along with mainframe related tools such as BMC, CA Platinum for monitoring, SMPE, ISPF, SMS, SMF 2+ years of experience in IBM Infosphere for CDC Replication 1+ years of experience in IBM IDAA (IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator) Experience in RACF - DB2 Resources Classes Experience in REXX programming Experience with Atlassian tools like Jira, Confluence Knowledge on Oracle, Cockroach, and Kafka is a plus 2+ years of experience on transformational cross-functional IT initiatives With a proven background on database engineering, automation, monitoring, performance engineering design and implementations Strong execution mind-set to manage and track progress against transformation goals Knowledge of industry-wide technology trends and best practices Experience in Financial industry

You must offer skill and experience

* In depth working knowledge of DB2 Utilities including IBM and BMC
* Working knowledge of BMC tools including change manager, catalog manager, Mainview, and SQL performance.
* Solid understanding of DB2 recovery options
* In-depth understanding of DB2 Explain and ability to identify less than optimal access paths
* Broad understanding of ACF2 and RACF2 managed security for DB2 Access.
* Working knowledge of Endevor
* Working knowledge of ITSM Processes and tools including BMC Remedy
* Understanding of Replication principles
* Understanding of Data Dictionaries including Brownstone.
* Background in database design for 24x7 availability.
