CACI's elite team develops advanced systems for the US Government and is seeking a highly talented Database Engineer to join our select fast-paced, agile DIA Analysis & Production (A&P) team in our Sterling, VA location.

You will be a member of a team of dedicated and collaborative engineers focused on delivering mission capabilities based on analyst needs. You will participate in all aspects of agile software engineering activities, contribute your ideas, design and implement new capabilities, resolve operational issues, and work directly analysts to ensure the software solution meets user needs. You'll iterate on successful new capabilities and recommend scrapping capabilities which do not provide user value.

As a Database Engineer you will:

Provides technical expertise for database design, development, implementation, information storage and retrieval, data flow and analysis Develop relational and/or Object-Oriented databases, database parser software, and database loading software like Hadoop, Accumulo, NiFi, Twister, Storm, etc. Project long-range requirements for database administration and design Responsible for developing a database structure that fits into the overall architecture of the system under development and has to make trades among data volumes, number of users, logical and physical distribution, response times, retention rules, security and domain controls The DBE works primarily at the front end of the lifecycle-requirements through system acceptance testing and Initial Operational Capability (IOC) Develop requirements from a project's inception to its conclusion for a particular business and IT subject matter area (i.e., simple to complex systems) Assist with recommendations for, and analysis and evaluation of systems improvements, optimization, development, and/or maintenance efforts Translate a set of requirements and data into a usable document by creating or recreating ad hoc queries, scripts, and macros; updates existing queries, creates new ones to manipulate data into a master file; and builds complex systems using queries, tables, Open Database Connectivity and database storage and retrieval using Cloud methodologies

You'll spend time on the following:
Managing the Teradata clusters end to end Understand the business users need and resolve their day to day issues Make sure that the system is available for the business round the clock Plan the maintenance at a suitable window whenever it requires

Roles and Responsibilities:
Ability to take on responsibilities as a Teradata engineer with good knowledge on Teradata administration; coordinates upgrades with the vendors and participates in disaster recovery exercises.Able to perform security audits and develop a framework, which includes designing and implementing roles, profiles, and accounts.Able to create stored procedures to support the continued functioning of the Teradata data warehouse.Work collaboratively with the database operations team and the vendor to resolve incidents and mitigate risks.Manages and monitor system performance, Proactively monitor the database systems to ensure and secure services with minimum downtime Demonstrated knowledge of Performance Data Collection and Reporting (PDCR) and Database Query Logging (DBQL) Expertise with installing, maintaining, using all the Teradata tools (ex BTEQ, SQL Assistant, TPUMP, TD Administrator, ODBC, MLOAD, Fast load, etc.) Expertise in Space management: setup the purging policy, implementing compression techniques.Experience in performance tuning-required.Provide recommendations for tuning including statistics optimization, sampled statistics, stats recollection, data distribution, indexes, PPI, join optimization.Performance optimization of resource-intensive ETL and individual user queries. Work with others as a team and provide recommendation for process improvement.Providing suggestions to DBA's on optimal workload management settings in TASM to be able to meet response-time SLA's as well as optimize resource consumption.Ability to conduct training and handling meetings with users, analysts, developers-preferred Exposure and Knowledge of Hadoop is a plus.

We are seeking someone to be a part of the Database Engineering team with a focus on maintaining, growing, and improving our database infrastructure and instrumentation. You will have experience working in a dynamic environment where you are responsible for multiple database technologies (primarily MySQL, Spanner, and CloudSQL) across thousands of database instances and related tooling. You should enjoy troubleshooting production issues as well as planning the future of our infrastructure. You should not be afraid to programmatically tackle problems or to make pragmatic choices when implementing new engineering solutions. Finally, you will be instrumental in helping grow the knowledge of your team members. This position requires all team members to participate in an overnight on-call schedule.
What you'll bring

+ Extensive experience with cloud services, databases, and various datastores e.g. Spanner, CloudSQL, and/or MySQL

+ Demonstrated experience with data modeling, extract/transform/load operations, data warehousing, and transaction processing

+ Experience writing tools and services (using PHP, Go/Golang, Python or Bash)

+ Demonstrated experience making pragmatic technical choices and heading up projects

+ Deep understanding of clustering, sharding, replication and high availability
