What is a digital program manager and how to become one

The digital program manager acts as a link between customers and their company. Software developers make digital products, and the digital program manager ensures that they get into the hands of clients that want and need them (and that the company earns a profit). They make sure that the process of promoting the digital products and getting them into the hands of consumers goes smoothly.

The digital program manager wears many hats. Some days, they are expected to be a marketing guru and manage ad campaigns to get the word out about the product. Other days, they are the master communicator and work with clients to understand their needs. Most of the time, the digital program manager is in management mode and oversees workflow.

The majority of digital program managers have bachelor's or master's degrees and studied topics like business or communications. They earned their position after years of work in programming and prior project management positions.

What general advice would you give to a digital program manager?

Brock Zehr

Associate Professor of Business & Economics and MBA Director, Huntington University

Social media content development, data analytics, and quality video content generation will all be in greater demand. Employers tell me that the "soft skills" of being a team player, excellent communication skills, integrity, and a strong work ethic are still valued skills.
