BAE Systems engine testing supervisor job description
BAE Systems has the need for a test engineering supervisor with extensive background in test and evaluation of multi discipline technical programs, collaborating across multiple design and customer entities. This key role is for our Systems Integration and Engineering Support Services contract, supporting the TRIDENT Strategic Weapon System for the Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) Office Test Programs. This supervisor will be required to provide supervision, strategic advice, and guidance to a section of engineers on test and evaluation program execution.
The successful candidate will be adept at understanding system level test engineering philosophies and schedules, and have the ability to plan and direct the technical execution of weapon system test functions.
The successful candidate will be able to synthesize information for alternative test strategies for current and future systems, and work with section of engineers to formulate and implement testing strategies.
The successful candidate will be adept at preparing for, and presenting at design reviews, performing requirement traceability analysis and understanding the associated system level design and verification and validation of requirements. The candidate will also be comfortable performing risk assessment and have the judgment to know when to elevate system risks.
The successful candidate will be adept at performing supervisory duties including, but not limited to, assigning technical tasks, hiring, training, evaluating, counseling, and disciplining employees. The candidate will ensure personnel are properly qualified and perform duties effectively.
The successful candidate will be able to assists in the development of section related Basis of Estimates (BOE), Contract Statement of Work (SOW), Contract Deliverable Requirement Lists (CDRL), and other contract related items.
The position is based in Rockville, MD and involves visits to the customer site at the Washington Navy Yard.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
•Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical/Electrical/System Engineering or other related science degree and six years of relevant experience or ten years of SSBN SWS experience in lieu of a degree
•Eligibility to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET security clearance
•Experience in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems engineering, design, fabrication, interface definition, systems integration, and/or requirements verification / system testing
•Ability to work independently in developing creative solutions
•Ability to work and communicate well with management, customers, and other contractors - including ability to provide clear and concise presentation/demonstration of advanced technical concepts
•Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills
•Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with others
•Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills

Job Summary
- Provide leadership for the Test Engineering Department to establish objectives, priorities, and accountabilities, guide achievement of performance objectives, select, and empower functional leaders.
- Manage the performance and training of Test Engineers, Test Engineering Technicians, and Documentation personnel.
- Direct Test Engineering department and facility in continuous improvement activities
- Develop and maintain an excellent working relationship with our customers through developing of staff to achieve customer requirements for engineering support and selling the support to customers.
- Develop engineering processes and procedures in accordance with ISO that allow products to be built and maintained to revision levels.
- Provide technical support to solve production problems within the facility.
- Adhere to General Requirements of Team Members.
- Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.
- Perform other assignments as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in engineering discipline or a technical field
- Five years of experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment; two (2) or more years of equivalent industry experience is preferred
- Knowledge of aerospace company specifications and practices
- Ability to lead a group of people in a constructive, productive and fair manner
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mylars
- Ability to drive relentless root cause analyses to gain from our mistakes
