The goal is to address health inequity and disparities in both urban and rural communities through developing innovative models rooted in strong community engagement and multi-disciplinary research.
The Director of Finance provides financial leadership and is a member of the Health Science Center (HSC) administrative team supporting executive and operational leaders. Directs and oversees financial related activities including, but not limited to, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, expense management, financial analysis, business plans and other financial improvement plans, along with the development of fiscal policies required to deliver the HSC board strategic plans. The Director of Finance will work to maintain effective and responsive relations with fiscal representatives at Michigan State University and Henry Ford Health System to ensure achievement of financial objectives and alignment. This position reports to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the HSC.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Budgeting Responsibilities
+ Provides direction to the Research, Cancer Research, and Education committees of the HSC for development of multi-year budget plans to help achieve financial performance goals.
+ Informs committees of estimated available funding pools
+ Works with the HSC leadership to develop the administrative support budget
+ Works with various workstream leads (Communications; Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Philanthropy, IT) to incorporate appropriate budget into the HSC budget plan or work with HSC partners to facilitate alternative resources
+ Prepare and present multi-year budget plan annually, as directed by the HSC board
Operational Responsibilities:
+ Accountable for the monthly financial reporting process to ensure leadership receives timely and accurate data. Provides explanation of variances and advises management as to the areas of significant variance from plan. Prepares reports for leadership, boards and finance committees.
+ Under the direction of the CAO, maintains financial viability in the HSC operations through growth strategies and cost management.
+ Works with CAO to manage resource allocations based on strategic priorities to meet capital and operational needs for the HSC.
+ Develops required financial reporting as directed by federal, state, and HSC Board requirements.
+ Works with HSC partners to assist in their respective reporting requirements for activities related to the HSC.
