Ripley's Aquarium of Canada excavator backhoe operator job description

Backhoe Operator : Digs around existing buried utilities and exposes same for crossing with the cable plow. Digs lateral trenches from 3-5 feet deep to place cable in to pedestals General clean-up. You may have to dig by hand to verify exact utility locations prior to digging with the backhoe. Ripley’s uses John Deere rubber tire backhoes. The largest is a 410 SJ. We do not have any “Cat” branded backhoes. A Current CDL is preferred. 500 machine hours of operating a backhoe is preferred. Your interview will include a demonstration of your level of skill. Pay is based on your level of skill.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

1.) Out of town travel as required
2.) Ability to work in adverse weather conditions
3.) Ability to lift 75 lbs.
4.) Ability to kneel, squat, bend and twist as needed
6.) Ability to use a variety of hand/power tools
7.) Must have a current valid drivers license
9.) Must maintain a current health certificate
10.) Must perform prescribed job function in a timely and efficient manner

TRAINING QUALIFICATIONS:

New Hire on the job training for up to 2 weeks or as needed with an experienced employee

Knowledge of company's policies and procedures
Participate in weekly toolbox meeting

Job DescriptionSalary: Minimum starting $17.00 per hour plus, depending on experience.

Minimum starting $17.00 per hour plus, depending on experience.


The Levy Company is currently hiring an experienced Backhoe Operator to operate large mobile equipment to assist in construction projects.


Essential Functions may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Operate a backhoe and other mobile equipment to dig, move materials, lift large and heavy materials, and compact / level earth to grade specifications.
  2. Operate large and small motor vehicles to transport material, equipment, and supplies.
  3. Use judgment based on experience, along with available resources to ensure accurate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
  4. Operate hand and power tools, measuring devices, and other equipment.
  5. Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed.
  6. Assist in erecting and disassembling scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, and other temporary structures.
  7. Assist in controlling traffic passing near, in, and around work zones.
  8. Load and unload building materials, machinery, and tools.
  9. Perform routine safety, maintenance, and servicing inspections and reports.


Required Qualifications:

  1. At least one year of backhoe operation experience with additional experience operating other types of heavy equipment.
  2. Valid Texas driver license.


Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Highway construction experience.
  2. Experience operating around underground gas, electric, and other utilities.
  3. Valid Texas commercial driver license.


Required Competencies:

  1. Advanced skill in backhoe operation and routine maintenance.
  2. Ability to operate other types of heavy equipment.
  3. Knowledge of construction practices and use of tools and equipment in construction.
  4. Basic mathematical skills.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed primarily in outdoor environments with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, moving objects, sharp edges, and all types of weather and temperature conditions. Constant driving of large equipment and vehicles for long distances with occasional overnight stays.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Frequent operation of equipment with vibrating and moving parts.
  2. Frequent and repeated hand and arm movement to manipulate tools, handles, and levers.
  3. Frequent and repeated lifting from ground to various heights up to 50 pounds individually, and team lifting heavier items.
  4. Frequent and repeated exerting of force up to 100 pounds.
  5. Standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  6. Frequent walking on uneven and / or unpaved terrain.
  7. Frequent climbing steps, ladders, and in/out/onto vehicles.
