OBJECTIVE: Perform electronic and mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance procedures on existing and future exhibits.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS / EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Ideal candidate will possess an inventive spirit; initiative to work without direct supervision; effective oral and written communication skills; able to work on multiple projects simultaneously; responsible for timely completion of assigned tasks; and focused on quality service to internal staff and external customers and Guests. Ability to establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with individuals at all levels, including a culturally diverse general public essential. Must have a good working knowledge and the ability to troubleshoot computer, electronic, electrical, and audio/visual systems; be skilled in the use of a wide variety of hand and power tools; able to lift and move heavy objects; walk in excess of 3 miles per day; and work from lifts, ladders, and high platforms. Knowledge of the materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance of interactive exhibits and shows required. Ability to read basic blue prints, floor plans, and wiring diagrams desirable. Related school course work or experience in electronics, mechanical, or computer technology field preferred.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:
Maintenance and repair of museum exhibits including various electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and audio/visual devices.
Routine cleaning and completion of a preventive maintenance schedule.
Assist with the installation of new permanent and temporary exhibitions.
Supervise daily operations of the exhibit floor by overseeing the “immediate concerns” walkie-talkie and proactively prioritizing reported challenges.
Assist with the installation and strike of traveling exhibitions at COSI.
Keep abreast of technology and new developments related to the exhibit field.
Keep shop and personal workspace neat, clean, organized, and well supplied.
Maintain records and write reports as requested.
Will be required to work both nights and weekends to provide support for COSI's Event Team on an “as needed” basis, many times the only representative from the Exhibits Team.
Support general COSI operations through participation in meetings as appropriate.
Serve as an example to other COSI Team Members and Volunteers in matters of appearance, attitude, and performance in a manner best serving COSI paid and Volunteer Team Members and Guests.
In accordance with COSI's Guest Services Strategy, and as opportunities present themselves, provide excellence in Guest Services by assuring Guest safety, using courtesy to drive each Guest interaction, by delivering the COSI show, and by keeping operations efficient.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Exhibit Operations.

IMAGINATION STATION Exhibits Technician Part Time Description: This position reports to the Exhibits Manager and performs repairs, cleaning, installation, de-installation and general maintenance of science center exhibits and related structures, fixtures and/or projects. Works collaboratively with all divisions and interacts with the general public in a manner consistent with science center guidelines. Responsibilities:
Uses proper tools, equipment, material, techniques and methods to perform installations, de-installations, repairs, cleaning and general facility and exhibit maintenance.
Completing opening and closing procedures and maintaining the facility throughout the day.
Maintains a positive attitude and impeccable work ethic.
Ensures that the Facilities and Exhibits Manager is informed of all significant developments and potential issues related to exhibits on public display.
Monitors exhibit and facility areas to ensure visitor and building occupant safety. Responds to routine requests from the general public while working in public areas of the science center.
Performs walk-through/ visual inspections of exhibits to identify needed repairs and general maintenance
Plans and performs all repairs and general maintenance as required.
Performs physical cleanup relative to construction and deconstruction duties.
Works collaboratively with science center facilities and housekeeping personnel to ensure proper coordination and servicing of facility as required. Demonstrates responsiveness to requests for assistance from other team members.
Works to using established safety techniques; continuously assesses safety conditions to ensure individual and workplace safety in the best interests of safety of visitors, Team and self.
Assist in building operations as needed by facilities staff.
All other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Proficient with small hand tools, power tools, table saw, router, voltmeter, basic plumbing and electrical skills.
Capable of working on multiple projects and balancing work load as necessary.
Must be available to work extended hours, including evenings, nights and/or weekends as necessary and work within tight deadlines.
Physical and other demands required in this position:
This position requires continuous physical and mental exertion, requires extended periods of high mobility throughout the facility as well as periods of working in limited and/or confined areas performing highly detailed physical and manual tasks.
Responds to competing demands and rapid change in the work environment by demonstrating resourcefulness and timely resolution of issues or work outputs.
Follows directions and demonstrates applied learning in all situations.
Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage workload with minimum of direction.
Communicates concisely and demonstrates effective interpersonal skills in all interactions with other individuals.
Repetitively bends, stoops, reaches, climbs, stretches and lifts up to 40 pounds.
Regular attendance is an essential job duty for this position.
