Summary

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

Monitors extrusion line to ensure that high quality parts are being run.

Performs change-overs in a timely manner.

Takes cross section of completed matieral.

Examines material or product for surface defects such as scratches, dents, scuff marks, weld lines, burn, sink, and unmelt.

Starting pay is $21.10/hr

The extruder operator is responsible for overseeing set up, change over, and overall efficient machine operation in order to produce quality material. This role also serves as a senior advisor in both a technical and safety capacity for the site, which also involves assisting with the training of fellow extrusion team members.

Responsibilities

- To adhere to the outlined manufacturing and compliance practices to ensure personal and product safety.

- To understand the specifications outlined by our customers and the importance of manufacturing excellence.

- To understand the needs of our customers and a subpar experience or product affects PI's relationship with them.

- To ensure that the output of the manufacturing process is of the utmost quality.

  • Completes machine start-up, making needed adjustments for temperature and die opening, and monitors finished product to be certain quality is acceptable.

- When necessary, changes rolls of finished product, weighs roll and records net weight on roll and production record, puts finished roll on skid and bands finished skid together.

- May at times operate grinder to prepare scrap for re-use.

- Reports any machine problems that can not readily be repaired to Extrusion Manager for assistance.

- Operates forklift for moving materials and equipment (forklift license required).

- Directs operator helper in obtaining needed materials before and during runs and before changing over.

- Notifies general manager of low inventories of materials, packaging materials and repair parts.

- Completes scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of machines and tools, as needed.

- Responsible for the overall cleanliness of the equipment and Extrusion area of the site.

- Maintains the levels of raw materials in silos, dryers, and crystallizers, along with safe manuevering of new materials when a change over is necessary (in compliance with all FDA and SQF standards).

Pay : $17.00-$17.50 depending on shift

Shift : 8 hour, 10 hour, and 12 hour shifts are available.

Extruders provide set up, monitor and operate extrusion equipment, troubleshooting to meet output goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures proper mix of polymer and records mix and lot numbers correctly
  • Confirms material in production is the correct basis weight, width, and length
  • Performs basis weight and roll width inspections on every third roll after curing and records the information
  • Adjusts the extruder temperatures, screw rate, and line speeds to produce acceptable quality products and records required data in the Production Logs
  • Monitors the extrusion line throughout the shift to ensure products maintain acceptable quality levels
  • Makes sure that rolls are properly labeled and racked
  • Confirms that products are manufactured per the extrusion schedule and reports deviations to the Shift Supervisor or Line Leader
  • Follows information on the set-up sheets as guides to produce quality products
  • Informs the Shift Supervisor or Line Leader when the set-up sheet or Traveler contains incorrect information
  • Maintains, cleans and organizes production area in an efficient and safe manner
  • Inspects spinnerets, screen packs, spreaders, tools and accessories of any defects prior to use and advises Shift Supervisor and/or Line Leader of any issues
  • Diagnoses factors that contribute to quality issues and perform corrective action
  • Performs production trial runs and experimental runs as directed
  • Supports health and safety initiatives, including maintaining good housekeeping at all times

Key Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and/or move material, supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Regular use of hands to diagnose, operate and maintain equipment, tools, and devices.
  • Occasional inspection of equipment, structures or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment preferred, but not required.
  • Basic computer experience or the ability to learn
