Farrar finish grinder job description

Foundry Grinding and Finishing - Farrar Corporation - Norwich, KS

Our Grinding and Finishing (G&F) position is an entry level position within the Farrar Corporation ductile iron foundry located in Norwich, KS. The G&F position is the final step in our foundry process in producing ductile iron castings for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM's) throughout the United States. Your work ethic and attention to detail can be used to work your way through the G&F processes of utilizing a grinding wheel, utilizing small hand grinders, as well as running our CNC controlled grinding machines. Advancement may also include the ability to run core making machines, mold making machines, or working in our melt department pouring ductile iron.

Opportunities exist for 1st shift, 2nd shift as well as weekend (Friday - Sunday)

Primary Responsibilities

+ Process castings weighing up to 70 lbs; most of our castings weigh 20 lbs and below; however, our clients do have castings weighing up to 70 lbs

+ Operate manual and computer-controlled grinding equipment

+ Read and understand documented work instructions, drawings, and required paperwork

+ Ability to obtain a Farrar provided forklift license and operate a forklift safely

Preferred Qualifications

+ Manufacturing background/environment preferred, but not required

+ Ability to work and interact in both a team environment and solo workspace

+ Desire to learn and grow within the field of ironwork

Work Schedules

+ 1st shift schedule 5:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

+ 2nd shift schedule 7:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

+ Weekend shift schedule 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.(work 36 hours; paid for 40)

+ Overtime as scheduled and required to maintain deliveries

**1st Shift - Full Time**

Process parts for assembly by cleaning, deburring, polishing and fitting. Finish grind and polish gear tooth edges and roots. Use hand and power tools, scale, square, calipers, feeler gauges, deburring and polishing tools, drills, presses, clamping devices, grinders, tote boxes or containers, jib or overhead crane or hoist, hand truck, drawings, etc.

Materials: Parts, pieces and sub-assemblies such as gears, shafts, bushings, brake bands, etc., lubricant, miscellaneous hardware items, etc.
**Job** **duties/Responsibilities** **may include, but are not limited to:**

+ Identify and prepare parts, gearing and sub-assemblies by cleaning, deburring, polishing, fitting and dressing using file, deburring equipment, etc. Manually or with hoist, jib or overhead crane, jacks, horses, etc., position and align work pieces. Make simple assemblies and sub-assemblies working to drawings, or templates.

+ May perform operations such as pressing bushings, fitting keys or splines, dressing gear teeth, fit up brake bands, fit gears on shafts and make other simple assemblies or sub-assemblies of similar complexity under the direction of assembler.

+ Keep facilities, material and work area clean and orderly, exercising care in their use and assisting in their maintenance as required. Conform to safety and inspection requirements.

**Required Qualifications:**

+ Minimum of 2 years experience grinding, sanding, cleaning and detailing parts.

+ Experience of loading and securing large components onto rail and transfer cars.

**Desired Qualifications:**

+ Minimum 2 years finish grinding experience.

+ Ability to work well individually or in a team environment.

+ Ability to work overtime to support production demands.

+ Experience in preserving and securing parts on crates and skids.

+ Machining experience a plus.

+ Ability to read blueprints.
