Jensen Hughes is seeking a talented Senior Fire and Egress Modeling Engineer in Mid-Atlantic Region (Baltimore/Rockville, MD or Blacksburg, VA).

**Responsibilities**

The position will be for the Research, Development, Testing, and Evaluation (RDTE) division. This exciting group includes an interdisciplinary team of CFD engineers, FEM engineers, machine learning engineers, and laboratory/testing engineers. The position will require detailed knowledge of performance-based design evaluations using computational fluid dynamics for smoke control applications.

**Qualifications**

+ P.E. License in Fire Protection Engineering

+ Knowledge of building/fire codes and standards related to fire/life safety

+ Ten (10) or more years of hands-on industry experience in using Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS), Consolidated Fire and Smoke Transport Model (CFAST) and CONTAM

+ Ten (10) or more years of hands-on industry experience in using egress models such as PathFinder, Exodus, and MassMotion, etc.

+ Five (5) or more years of experience as project manager for projects including performance-based design, fire and egress modeling

+ Ability to work both as an individual contributor as well as in a team environment

+ Ability to mentor junior engineers on smoke control modeling using FDS

+ Ability to analyze, prepare and review smoke control modeling and egress analysis

+ Ability to present the information prepared by others to clients and AHJs

+ Existing client-base with a willingness to grow in new areas

We are currently seeking an Engineer for HVAC and Fire Alarm Systems on our Central Infrastructure team for our site in Charleston, TN.
What you will do:

The Engineer for HVAC and Fire Alarm Systems has three major areas of responsibility. The role as HVAC Engineer is the subject matter expert (SME) for Air Conditioning Units (ACUs) for office space, electrical or mechanical rooms, and the HAS (HVAC Automation System). The role as Water-Chiller Engineer is responsible for the two 1200 Ton water chillers and AHUs serving three process buildings. The role as SFS (Site Fire System) engineer works with the Wacker Fire Department to ensure testing and upkeep of the various fire alarm or fire protection systems. The position assures regulatory compliance, availability and reliability of infrastructure and utility systems

Technical Duties:

Assure safe and reliable operating conditions of equipment within area of responsibility (HVAC, Chillers, FAS systems)
Support availability of infrastructure facilities and mechanical systems and equipment at required capacity and quality
Conduct and coordinate debottlenecking and troubleshooting activities
Manage & coordinate 3rd party service providers & related contracts
Assure regulatory compliance of systems or equipment
Participate in planning and execution of system or unit turnarounds
Support maintenance team in planning and execution of ITPM and MRO activities
Plan and execute small size capital investment projects
Consult and support capital projects executed by project engineering
Coordinate and manage the activities of the Management of Change (MOC) process
Drive and support continuous improvement activities related to safety, quality, and cost

Specialized Duties:

Consult with building owners on their projects, elaborate the user requirements and transfer the requests into technical projects
Rectify billing issues when they arise, including mis-billing and disputes.
Self-directed training activity

Special Assignments:

Occasionally, special assignments arise where your expertise is required. Sometimes this position assists in areas outside the area of expertise

What we need from you:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering
5+ years of combined professional experience in a related field
Experience in reading Building plans and understanding of equipment schedules for Mechanical and/or Electrical plans from an Engineering firm.
Experience with a commercial Mechanical Contractor involved in the servicing or construction of mechanical systems.
Experience with Preventative Maintenance plans or working with HVAC service providers.
Experience with Fire Systems, such as the ability to read as built drawings and compliance issues with Fire alarm systems and sprinkler systems
Demonstrate strong system understanding of HVAC systems.
Assure some level of technical knowledge in the field of instrumentation and control concepts of HVAC units.
Design knowledge of HVAC systems and Chillers is a plus but not required
Experience researching related regulatory codes, such as National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) as it relates to the ownership and maintenance of systems.
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to perform and succeed in an environment of schedule and cost pressure
Capability to professionally deal with changing priorities and requirements
Thorough understanding of engineering principles, maintenance strategies and construction practices in the field of mechanical systems, or instrumentation, controls, and automation
Leadership skills combined with team player attitude
Strong multitasking competency
