Rutgers, The State University of New jersey is seeking a Mobile Health Unit Driver - Per Diem in Cancer Health Equity & Engagement at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The Mobile Health Unit Driver supports the improvement of patient outcomes through implementation of mobile health services for cancer screening at ScreenNJ partner sites throughout New Jersey. The focus of the ScreenNJ program is prevention and early detection of cancer. The Mobile Health Unit Driver is a member of the Mobile Health Unit Team responsible for the safe functioning and operation of the mobile unit and thus supports the extension of health services to medically underserved residents across New Jersey.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
* Drives a large (38' long) Mobile Medical Unit in a safe, responsible manner, ensuring the MMU is set up and ready prior to clinical team arriving. Ensures MMU is mechanically sound and is adequately fueled, completing pre and post inspections before and after each use. Promptly reports any adverse mechanical,
unsafe or unkempt conditions of vehicle.
* Ensures that medical mobile units are able to be driven safely, able to complete basic maintenance procedures for operation including vehicle refueling, generator operation, climate control operation, dumping waste, leveling jacks, maintenance checks, cleaning, supply purchasing, washing, etc...
* Performs a wide variety of clerical tasks as directed by clinical staff, including, but not limited to, patient registration, updating demographic information in patient medical records, completion of new patient paperwork and other grant paperwork, and other non-clinical duties as assigned.
* Stocks all required supplies and forms, conducts routine equipment and maintenance checks on the mobile medical unit. Responsible for medical mobile unit care and upkeep including general cleaning and daily routine maintenance.
* Exhibits tact and a helpful attitude towards medical mobile unit staff, on site personnel, clients and demonstrates good communication and listening skills with staff and clients.
* Promotes teamwork and actively participates in meetings.
* Able to work closely with staff at client sites and other community-based organizations and willing to engage with patients to promote interest and access to medical, dental, behavioral health, nutrition, case management, and insurance enrollment services.
* Adheres to clinic departmental policies and procedures, which include Joint Commission (JC) standards, Patient Safety initiatives, Patient Rights, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy standards.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Using a written checklist, conducts pre- and post-trip inspections of the MHU as well as the company's leased vehicle to ensure that they are in proper working order
- Operates the MHU on schedule and on the designated routes, complying with all traffic regulations to ensure that passengers have a safe and smooth ride
- Parks in designated spots at designated destinations, securing the MHU as required
- Assists passengers, such as elderly or disabled individuals, on and off MHU as needed
- Maintains records of patient transports, mileage and gas receipts to and from each destination
- Keeps the inside of the MHU and the company's leased vehicle clean, removing trash after each trip, and regulates heating/cooling and lighting for patient and passenger comfort.
- Takes MHU and the company's leased vehicle to the car wash as deemed necessary
- Reports any MHU and company's leased vehicle issues to the Director of Rural Health immediately and follows-up for maintenance as needed
- Assists with the loading and unloading of equipment and supplies daily before and after MHU Clinics
- Assist on the farms with patient registration and other tasks as assigned.
