- Manage and supervise silviculture and harvesting activities to achieve standards set by District Manager, federal and state regulations, and local Best Management Practices.
- Assist District Manager on special projects on specific Tree Farms.
- Provide forest management expertise in support of annual Area goals and objectives.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify, plan, execute, and manage projects in the following areas: reforestation, silviculture, harvesting, and stewardship.
- Implement policies, procedures, and guidelines regarding all silviculture activities to ensure the highest quality while managing cost effectiveness.
- Administer forestry contractor process including initiation, bid and prospectus, contract preparation, payment schedule, etc.
- Assist in timber harvest layout, permits, and notices of operation with regard to silviculture and stewardship principles.
- Maintain knowledge and understanding of local markets and mill utilization standards.
- Address land use issues and make agreements as needed.
- Maintain knowledge of current wildlife and environmental issues and address any concerns that may arise.
- Maintain an understanding of current industry standards; ensure full and appropriate compliance with local SFI and FSC programs.
- Actively participate in the implementation and utilization of GIS.
- Actively participate in and implement Campbell Global (CG) safety training and policies.
- Ensure that environmental or financial risk management reporting is conducted in a timely and professional manner to District Manager and, if appropriate, local Safety Coordinator.
- Respond to internal and external information requests in conjunction with management and team members.
- Actively participate within the organization to ensure all timberland management investment services meet or exceed client commitments.
- Represent C at all levels maintaining positive public relations.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Position is considered exempt based on job responsibilities
Qualifications for Position:
- B.S. Degree in Forestry, or a closely-related field; and
- Five years work experience in forest management.
- In lieu of the above, we will consider candidates with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience resulting in the knowledge and skills required to perform the job.
Experience and knowledge required/preferred:
- Must have planning, budgeting, and forecasting skills.
- Must have local wood market knowledge and experience with logging contractors.
- Demonstrated knowledge of applicable state and federal forestry laws and Best Management Practices.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate silviculture program effectiveness and communicate analysis to local management.
- Must have:
- Good research and analytical skills.
- Good communication skills - both oral and written.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds and work in steep, brushy terrain for long periods of time.
