GDIT is hiring a Molecular Genetics Technologist to support clinical trials/ medical research located at Travis Air Force Base in CA.

The Molecular Genetics Technologist will be responsible for:

+ Conducting laboratory examinations for clinical trials and medical research.

+ Collecting laboratory samples and document scientific findings to support claims and initial theories.

+ Utilize various advanced laboratory equipment and machinery.

+ Work with chemical solutions and sensitive samples, resulting in strict compliance and adherence to safety protocols and regulations.

**What You'll Need:**

+ Bachelor of Science in either clinical laboratory science, genetics, molecular genetic technology, biology, or related field.

+ 1-3 years or more of relevant experience.

+ ASCP certified in Molecular Genetics (CLSp MB).

+ Must be familiar with lateral flow assays and ELISA testing.

+ Tech Work with all types of Molecular Biology techniques including: ELISA, DNA and RNA extraction, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Reverse Transcriptase PCR, Southern and Western Blotting, Gel Electrophoresis, Restriction Enzyme Digest, Capillary Electrophoresis, Sanger Sequencing, Probe Hybridization, Bead Capture Technology, and Microarray Technology.

+ Able to read, write, and speak English fluently in order to effectively communicate with all personnel eligible for medical care and the staff of the military medical treatment facility (MTF).

+ Proficient with office equipment (e.g., computers, multi-line telephone system, voicemail, facsimile, copier, printers), as well as business software for word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, database management, and email communications. This includes, but is not limited to, Microsoft Office 2003 (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

We are seeking a Genetic Technologist - This position is responsible for performing Next Generation Sequencing clinical assays including library preparation, genetic and genomic data analyses, quality control, operational improvement, and preventative maintenance within the Institute for Genomic Medicine.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Performing routine and complex technical laboratory procedures potentially including, but not limited to:
* Nucleic acid quantitation and QC, including agarose gel electrophoresis, Agilent TapeStation, Agilent Bioanalyzer 2100, quantitative PCR, Nucleic Acid quantification: Nanodrop UV-VIS spectrophotometry, and Qubit fluorescence.
* PCR, Reverse-transcriptase PCR, Real-time PCR o Preparation of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Libraries: Genome, Exome, RNA-Seq, ArcherDx FusionPlex and VariantPlex.
* Next-generation sequencing: using Illumina sequencers (NovaSeq 6000, MiSeq)
* Interpretation and review of next-generation and Sanger sequencing data
* Operation of automated liquid handling systems including Agilent Bravo, BioMek, and Hamilton instrumentation
* Sanger sequencing, SNP genotyping o Documentation of clinical results in software and laboratory databases
* Technical and computational skills required for NGS and Sanger analyses include proficiency in use of genetic databases including UCSC Genome Browser, Ensembl, NCBI, VarSome, Illumina software, primer design software, Sequencher and Mutation Surveyor in addition to vendor provided and laboratory developed software. Training provided.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and capability to become proficient in vendor provided and laboratory developed software
* Follow established SOP's in a CAP/CLIA accredited laboratory
* Providing courteous and informative internal and external customer service
* Effectively communicating with co-workers, staff, and directors
* Documentation and review of laboratory QC/QA
* Maintaining laboratory instrumentation
* Involvement in training and competencies
* Participation in new assay validation and translational research
* Hours of this position will be Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm with rotating Saturday coverage

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Education:

* Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science; or a chemical, physical or biological science from an accredited institution.
* An ideal candidate will possess an American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification (MLS/MT, MB or CG).
* If not currently holding ASCP certification, and hired based on experience, the certification exam must be completed within 3 years of start date.

Experience and Skills:

* One to five years of experience in human genetics/genomics, molecular genetics, or related field required
* Experience interpreting genetic/genomic data preferred •
* Position to be leveled based on experience

Minimum Physical Requirements:

* Ability to stand for more than 1 hour at a time, sit for more than 1 hour at a time.
* Good visual and auditory acuity. Full use of hands and arms.
* Ability to speak clearly. Ability to lift 30 pounds occasionally. Must complete color blind testing.

Under immediate supervision work rotations are performed in all areas of a full service genetic lab for a specialized Molecular GeneticS laboratory including: DNA and RNA extraction, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Reverse Transcriptase PCR, Southern Blotting, agarose gel electrophoresis, restriction digest, Capillary Electrophoresis, Sanger Sequencing, Probe Hybridization, Bead Capture technology, Microarray technology and more.
Essential Responsibilities:

+ Patient Procedures and Activities. Follow universal guidelines for the handling of body fluids.

+ Laboratories:

+ Clean and fill specimen jars with solutions. Perform quality assurance procedures. Sort, number and label specimens in specified sequence. Centrifuge and separate specimens and decant serum. Check media solutions for quality standards. Develop film and make prints. Examine reagents for contamination, impurities or instability. Centrifuge specimen. Reject unsatisfactory specimens. Scan and examine specimens. Set up specimen tests and controls and interpretation. Dispose properly of laboratory specimen and waste material. Operate autoclave, drying over or dishwasher. Wash laboratory glassware and instruments. Assign identification number to specimens. Pick up/deliver blood and other specimens from/to laboratory. Prepare and pack samples for shipment to outside laboratories. Receive, sort and transport laboratory specimens.

+ Technical:

+ Work with all types of Molecular Biology techniques including: DNA and RNA extraction, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Reverse Transcriptase PCR, Southern Blotting, agarose gel electrophoresis, restriction digest, Capillary Electrophoresis, Sanger Sequencing, Probe Hybridization, Bead Capture technology, Microarray technology and more. Batch received specimens, perform nucleic acid extractios (manual and automatic), prepare agarose gels, set up all Molecular Biology reactions, Operate automated Genetic testing instruments, perform quality assurance checks, collect and report quality indicator data, Evaluate test results, prepare final reports, release reviewed reports in to the LIS system, and more.

+ Record Patient Information.

+ Complete forms and records. Look up and report test results as requested. Prepare lab worksheets. Report negative/positive specimens.

+ Equipment and Instruments.

+ Load paper and tape into computer printer. Prepare and process packs, supplies, equipment and instruments. Clean and sterilize instruments, supplies and equipment.

+ Materials and Supplies.

+ Dispose of used syringes and contaminated materials. Inventory equipment and supplies. Maintain solutions, chemicals and automatic equipment. Replenish supplies and equipment.

+ Administrative and Other.

+ Orient and train new or less experienced personnel. Attend conferences, meetings and in-service training programs. Maintain current licensure/certification. Maintain proficiency in clinical skills. Answer telephone and take messages.

+ Other Activities and Responsibilities.

+ Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

+ Minimum one (1) year of experience as a CLSp MB licensed personnel.

+ Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.

Education

+ Bachelor of Science in genetics,biology, or related field.

License, Certification, Registration

+ Valid California Clinical Genetics Molecular Biologist Scientist license.
