AncestryDNA is looking for a Data Engineer to join our Bioinformatics team. Reporting to the Bioinformatics Manager, this individual will enable our Research Scientists in the AWS cloud. The team coordinates with other teams within AncestryDNA, and teams across Ancestry. This team provides an essential role within Ancestry to support the flow of information to drive scientific innovation.

What You'll Do:Streamline manual processes to improve quality, reproducibility, and access to data.Build and maintain data systems and pipelines. Harmonize and transform raw information from different sources to create consistent and machine-readable formats. Develop and test architectures that enable data extraction and transformation for predictive or prescriptive modeling

Who You Are:Previous experience as a data engineer or in a similar role Technical expertise with data models, data mining, and segmentation techniques Knowledge of Python programming languages Hands-on experience with complex SQL queries and database design Experience developing interactive visualization tools to support non-technical stakeholders (e.g., RShiny, Streamlit, Tableau, web-based applications) Experienced with Spark/Hadoop experience for big data analytics

The Role

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Designs, develops, and innovates new glass and material compositions to improve or expand Kopp’s material composition catalog and capabilities. Coordinates new or improved glass compositions into Production. Works closely with Operations, Sales, and Quality departments to support or lead design projects through to finished products.

  • Represents and travels for Kopp Glass on pertinent technical committees, trade shows and customer visits.
  • Identifies and researches innovations and movements within glass, ceramics, or material science research, industries, or markets. Providing important analysis and resources to Executive Management, Sales, Marketing, and Production departments.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or master’s degree in Glass engineering, Ceramic engineering, Materials, mechanical, or electrical engineering from an accredited engineering school.
  • Entry-level (0-3 years) position available.

Physical Requirements:

  • The essential functions of this role will be performed in both an office and factory setting. This may include walking, standing, bending and occasional lifting to a maximum of 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in both a hot and cold environment and perform essential functions while wearing necessary PPE (safety shoes, safety glasses, ear plugs, respirators as needed).
