AncestryDNA is looking for a Data Engineer to join our Bioinformatics team. Reporting to the Bioinformatics Manager, this individual will enable our Research Scientists in the AWS cloud. The team coordinates with other teams within AncestryDNA, and teams across Ancestry. This team provides an essential role within Ancestry to support the flow of information to drive scientific innovation.

What You'll Do:Streamline manual processes to improve quality, reproducibility, and access to data.Build and maintain data systems and pipelines. Harmonize and transform raw information from different sources to create consistent and machine-readable formats. Develop and test architectures that enable data extraction and transformation for predictive or prescriptive modeling

Who You Are:Previous experience as a data engineer or in a similar role Technical expertise with data models, data mining, and segmentation techniques Knowledge of Python programming languages Hands-on experience with complex SQL queries and database design Experience developing interactive visualization tools to support non-technical stakeholders (e.g., RShiny, Streamlit, Tableau, web-based applications) Experienced with Spark/Hadoop experience for big data analytics

Required Skills and Qualifications:Master's degree in stats, physics, computer science, or related discipline Minimum 2 year of experience with Python, SQL, and interactive data visualization/exploration tools Experience using Python to automate tasks Experience with Bash, Linux administration Communication skills, especially explaining technical concepts to non-technical business leaders Comfort working in a dynamic, research-oriented team with concurrent projects Familiarity with the AWS ecosystem Knowledge of infrastructure tools like Terraform and AWS Cloud FormationExperience working with biological data/scientistsfamiliarity with workflow orchestration tools/languages to automate tasks and deploy pipelines

The Role
We have an opportunity for an Engineer to join our Applied Science team. You will be a key technical contributor to our Defense and Critical Infrastructure team. You will work closely with our clients in the US Department of Defense and other government and private entities, performing simulations to solve their real-world challenges. Peers and senior staff will work collaboratively with you in an intellectually challenging yet collegial environment.

Responsibilities:
Perform advanced analysis and research on engineering and scientific problems, using a combination of engineering level tools, finite element analysis, and computational fluid dynamics software, to:Assess the vulnerability of structures to a variety of extreme loads Design engineering solutions to protect structures subjected to extreme loads Investigate root causes of structural failures Work within a team of professionals to address this wide range of problems. Manage your individual tasks and responsibilities by working with team members to produce meaningful and innovative solutions.Present your work to clients via in-person and remote briefings and written reports/drawings/specs.

Qualifications:
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in structural, geotechnical, mechanical, or aerospace engineering or applied science is required.Ability to obtain a US security clearance.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Designs, develops, and innovates new glass and material compositions to improve or expand Kopp’s material composition catalog and capabilities. Coordinates new or improved glass compositions into Production. Works closely with Operations, Sales, and Quality departments to support or lead design projects through to finished products.
• Works closely with the Production, Operations Engineering, and Quality departments to investigate issues or improvement projects within the glass manufacturing process as well as the gaining an extensive knowledge of product and industry standards or specifications.
• Communicates and assists the Sales and Marketing departments with client issues and requests for existing and new glass compositions and products. Interacts with current and potential clients to build relationships and strong ties helping to develop new product lines.
• Innovates within cross departmental teams to develop and investigate new ideas and novel products for implementation into Kopp’s markets and products.
• Represents and travels for Kopp Glass on pertinent technical committees, trade shows and customer visits.
• Identifies and researches innovations and movements within glass, ceramics, or material science research, industries, or markets. Providing important analysis and resources to Executive Management, Sales, Marketing, and Production departments.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelors or master’s degree in Glass engineering, Ceramic engineering, Materials, mechanical, or electrical engineering from an accredited engineering school.
• Entry-level (0-3 years) position available.

Physical Requirements:

• The essential functions of this role will be performed in both an office and factory setting. This may include walking, standing, bending and occasional lifting to a maximum of 50 lbs.
• Must be able to work in both a hot and cold environment and perform essential functions while wearing necessary PPE (safety shoes, safety glasses, ear plugs, respirators as needed).
