Overview: The scope of work includes conducting upwind and downwind perimeter air monitoring and documentation of construction activities as required by a Site Management Plan for the site. The air monitoring results, documentation and photographs will be included in a Periodic Review Report that will be submitted to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). This position may be physically demanding and will require safe lifting of monitoring equipment in an outdoor industrial environment, under variable weather conditions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4-year degree in geology, environmental engineering, science or construction-related field, and 5-8 years of construction/environmental/engineering experience.
  • First Aid, CPR & HAZWOPER certifications will be required to start but can obtain after offer acceptance
  • Must be able to 50lbs repeatedly over the course of a four-to-five-hour period and be comfortable with long periods of standing and walking
  • Familiarity with tasks and techniques typically associated with environmental field work.
  • Requires a fundamental knowledge of environmental sites, and sound safety minded judgment

Responsibilities

  • Applies experience and increasing proficiency in the use of environmental practices, and company policies.

We are currently seeking a **Monitoring Technician (Demil Tech III) (BGCAPP)** . This position is in **Richmond, KY** .
**Job Summary**

Battelle's monitoring mission at the Blue Grass Chemical Agent Destruction Pilot Plant (BGCAPP) is to conduct air monitoring for chemical agents in order to protect the workforce, general public, and the environment; as well as conducting environmental air monitoring.

**Responsibilities**

Work projects may include, but are not limited to:

+ The startup, operation, and maintenance of the agent monitoring instrumentation (MINICAMS and DAAMS).

+ The startup, operation, and maintenance of the non-agent monitoring instrumentation (CO and O2 CEMS) as necessary.

+ Ability to write and execute plans, procedures, and study protocols.

+ Monitoring of solid waste, and personnel.

+ Maintain appropriate documentation.

+ Conduct testing and perform maintenance as need on heated sample lines as scheduled.

+ Perform ancillary tasks in order to support monitoring and plant operations.

+ May Communicate directly with the client and other technical representatives as a subject matter expert; and provide in-depth reports for manager in a clear and concise manner.

+ Respond to alarms and malfunctions within the facility as required.

+ Properly dispose hazardous waste generated in accordance with BGCAPP procedure (Laboratory Waste Management Plan).

+ Demonstrates proficiency in the theory, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operation of monitoring systems.

+ Performs all tasks in a safe and environmentally compliant manner.

+ Contributes to the technical planning of air monitoring efforts, which may include recommendation and implementation of improved methods or new approaches.

+ When technical issues arise in Operations, aid in the resolution of technical challenges.

+ Maintain a good work attendance record and be punctual for all project work.

**Key Qualifications**

+ This position involves work near or with toxic and hazardous materials and requires ability to wear protective clothing/mask. Must be clean-shaven; must wear seat belts when driving or riding in vehicles on post.

+ During the first 5 months in this position, must achieve and maintain qualifications in required subject areas in accordance with BGCAPP procedure (Laboratory Training Plan).

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Three (3) years demonstrated experience in electrical or instrument controls, air sampling, laboratory, or demilitarization experience.

+ Three (3) years' work with chemical agents, or other hazardous chemicals.

+ One (1) year demonstrated experience with MINICAMS highly desired.

+ Associates degree specializing in Instrumentation Technology, life sciences or equivalent with one (1) year experience performing similar duties as described above.

BGCAPP is subject to Army Regulations (AR50-6 Chemical Surety Program and AR190-59 Unescorted Access Program) which govern persons performing work under the Chemical Personnel Reliability Program (CPRP) and Unescorted Access Program (UAP). Eligibility to be placed in a CPRP or UAP position requires US citizenship. Employees must favorably complete a series of screenings to include but not limited to: a National Agency Check with Local Agency Check and Credit Check (NACLC) security investigation, drug/alcohol testing and medical examination.

BGCAPP operates on a 24/7 schedule. This position may be required to work a schedule of rotating shifts including nights, weekends or holidays. All employees are subject to and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of continued employment for the duration of their assignment. Respiratory screening and the ability to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) may be required for this position. The ability to obtain/maintain access to the Blue Grass Army Depot is required.
