    Job Description prototype machinist A Conventional and CNC Machinist that works from blueprints, rough sketches, and verbal instructions to fabricate a variety of complex machined components. Performs non-repetitive assignments of a complex and difficult nature, involving the setup and operation of a wide variety of machine tools, such as lathe, mill, grinder, drill press, hand tools and CNCs. Knows the working qualities of a wide variety of materials including aluminum, stainless steel, brass and other materials. Type of Position: Temporary to Hire Hourly Rate: $25.00 - $40.00 Duties and Responsibilities • Studies specifications, such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts • Computer dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations •Works with Engineering team to determine best possible machining methods •Sets up and operates machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines and grinders to fabricate parts and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications •Verifies dimensions, alignments and clearances using measuring instruments, such as dial indicators, gauge blocks, thickness gauges, and micrometers •May examine previously used tools, jigs, fixtures and designs and modify parts •Assists Manufacturing Engineering in design and development of production jigs and fixtures •Performs other related duties as required and assigned Education and Experience • High School diploma required • 5 years related to high volume production Machine Shop experience • Aerospace or manufacturing experience preferred • Ability to demonstrate hands-on capability with programming and machine • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, both oral and written • Proven ability to adapt to fluctuating work assignments and fast paced environments • Detail-oriented with sound judgment, great follow-through and initiative • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment, proactive, and work independently • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Hourly Rate: $23.00 - $27.00 Duties and Responsibilities CNC Lathe Set Up Level I Positions and secures tooling and holding devices Loads program, checks machine on dry run operation Make sure machine activates to the program Checks own first articles must conform to specification, using all precision, measuring instrument Performs other related duties as required and assigned CNC Lathe Set Up Level II (in addition to CNC Lathe Set Up Level I) Sets up and operates all CNC lathes with minimum supervision Plans highly complex and exacting job and setups Pulls all required toolkits, inspection gauges, holding devices and materials specified by data sheet Replaces dull inserts or installs pre-set tools in machine load programs and makes specific offset control settings according to the data offset sheet Sets positions, checks machine operation Checks own work for conformance to specification Monitors machine operations Inspects machine parts to ensure job specification maintenance doing first/article of various parts operation to conform to print's diameter to quality control specification, material certs confirmation Improves machining method reducing cycle and setup time, deleting extra tool, modified fixtures for quick setup Edits program, when required, for better quality and on-time delivery Assists in training of new employees Education and Experience HS diploma required Minimum 2+ years progressive experience in machine shop environment Experience in metal machining industry or some technical training Knowledge in the use of all precision instruments and gauges, to submit quality first article parts Friendly, enthusiastic and a good team player Efficient, accurate, attentive to detail Self-motivated and willing to take initiative Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
