Responsibilities:
  • Create the technical strategy and IT reference architectures to guide the successful design, development, implementation and operations of IT solutions
  • Own Ample's ERP architecture and define ERP applications capabilities and how they should be integrated to provide the best business outcome

  • 5-8 years of enterprise architecture development / implementation experience focused on supply chain and manufacturing solutions.
  • Software system development, integration experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in creating enterprise architecture, technology roadmaps and ensuring these are aligned with key stakeholders.
  • Experience working with business relationships and project managers to design and deliver successful solutions. This experience should include creating detailed documents and presentations to steering committees or key stakeholders.
  • Any experience with technologies and industry trends in Smart Manufacturing, Industry 4.0 and Industrial IoT would be a huge bonus.

Your Opportunity

The Director, IT Plant Systems leads Smithfield's Plant Systems team in implementing and supporting technology solutions for the Company's manufacturing operations and warehousing. This leader will be a strong advocate of continuous improvement, industry-recognized best practices, and standardization across the organization with a strong focus on leading and guiding the team to provide high-quality technology solutions in support of daily production and ongoing continuous improvement initiatives for our plants and warehouses.

The Director, IT Plant Systems is responsible for managing large teams including both direct and indirect reporting relationships. Additionally, this role may have overall responsibility for more than one functional area. It is critical this leader has a deep understanding of process manufacturing operations and must build trusted relationships with Operations Executives, Plant Management, and fellow IT Leaders.

Core Responsibilities

* Leads the team which serves as the primary liaison between Manufacturing and IT
* Direct and guide the team in translating business needs into IT requirements for Manufacturing and Engineering projects, Plant cost-saving initiatives, onboarding of new acquisitions to Smithfield systems, requests for new technology and network-connected equipment, system enhancements and upgrades.
* Ensure alignment across stakeholders on decisions, priorities and relevant project information regarding business unit requests, projects and initiatives.
* Drives technology and business process innovation for our plants and warehouses to enable front line competitive position and manages a portfolio of services to address business needs within our plants.
* Leads reviews of current business processes to determine where automation/improvements will drive efficiency.
* Recommends innovative uses of existing software functionality to reduce manual effort and maximize the return on our investment in technology.
* Establish a consistent process for the development of detailed implementation and contingency plans and provide user and management training before, during, and after system deployments.
* Partner with Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure and Security teams to prepare site infrastructure as needed to accommodate new equipment, systems and processes.
* Develop and sustain effective Plant Systems management and staffing plans to deliver on objectives.
* Travel to implementation sites, when appropriate, to assist in the on-site deployment and training.
* Work with key stakeholders to classify manufacturing applications and integration points to guide security, support and business continuity priority.
* Develop and maintain a working knowledge of new technology and bring innovation ideas forward
* Keep accurate inventories of systems and IT equipment, and update our knowledge base of problem resolutions
* Assists the Applications, Infrastructure, IT Security & Vendor Management organizations to drive continuous improvement in internal and third-party support relationships.
* Manages and reduces risk.
* Assists in the prioritization of IT requests, ensuring team is working on the highest priority, highest return projects for the Smithfield organization.

What you will work on (essential duties not limited to the following):

IS and IT Operations

  • Develop and implement an agency strategy and roadmap for organizational excellence in the management of IS and IT services that are appropriate for onsite and remote work environments.

  • Oversee security of systems, networks, and enterprise information identifying vulnerabilities and the need for upgrades.
  • Identify business intelligence, reporting, and data analysis needs of the organization for the purpose of streamlining and improving the operations of the organization for efficiency and profitability.
